Cruise was better than expected

Sail Date: July 15, 2011

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Inside

Overall, the ship was nice. It is showing its age, but the staff does a great job of making it look spectacular. We were not sure what to expect as our previous cruising experience was not the most pleasant and we were never going to cruise again. This was a special request for a graduation present and I will have to say that the experience was much different than previous and we enjoyed it much more than we had anticipated. While I cannot guarantee that we will cruise again as overall it is not our choice for traveling, this experience has at least made it a maybe instead of an definite no.

Pros: The friendliness of the staff

Cons: The extremely long line and wait time to check in

Recommends Monarch of the Seas (RETIRED)? Yes!

Ship Quality
The ship was very clean, but it is definitely beginning to show its age. We have been on other cruises with this cruise line and the ships are in much better condition.
Actually only participated in a few activities and our niece loved the dance lessons.
Food and Dining
The variety of the food was excellent and the quality of the food - especially in the dining room was very good. (especially the cranberry bread)
Cabin / Stateroom
We had never had an interior stateroom before, but while it was small, the nooks and crannies that they have put in to allow you storage space was very appreciated. Again, the staterooms are showing their age, but it was comfortable and the decor was fine. Loved the location at the bow of the ship as it was quieter.
Service and Staff
Everyone we passed said hello and answered any question that we asked with a smile.
Cococay (Cruiseline's Private Island)
The island is small and very negotiable. The amenities were very nice.
Don't Miss: Snorkeling
Nassau, Bahamas
Only negative would be that everything closes at 5:00 PM which made it very hard to shop and sightsee outside of the excursion. Maybe getting into port earlier would help?
Don't Miss: Atlantis
