Review summary

My daughter planned this cruise for the family and had checked us all in online and so we already had all of our paperwork and luggage tags ready. There were 5 of us total and had 2 rooms side-by-side on Deck 6. This was a great deck to be on because it was so easy to get to all of the lounges and theaters. We flew into LAX on Sunday ( from Oregon ) and stayed at a Best Western in Long Beach that had a free shuttle to the cruise terminal the next day. My wife and I are both in our 80'so we appreciated the extra time to rest before starting on our first cruise. After he dropped us off a porter took charge of our bags and we were ready to board. After doing security and customs we were greeted on Deck 4 by staff who helped us find our rooms.

Ports of call

San Diego, California

We took the free shuttle to Hilo Hattie's for some shopping and then booked the $10 cruise around the city tour. The double decker bus was fun and the weather was great. And they dropped us right back at the ship at lunch time.

Ensenada, Mexico

3 out of 5
We paid the $2 to drive into Ensenada and it was worth it. It's a longer walk then it looks from the ship. We bought a few souvenirs and then returned to the ship. There was nothing special about Ensenada.

Catalina Island, California

5 out of 5
We booked the island/botanical garden excursion and had Dave as our driver. He was hysterically funny during the entire 2 hour tour. The island is intersting and I even made it all the way to the top of the Wrigley monument.

Pros: The food was wonderful. Both Vincent's Restaurant and Windjammer Cafe were great.

Cons: I didn't care for Johnnie-O. Hard to understand what he said and kind of boring.
