Nice Three-Day Cruise on the Monarch

Sail Date: June 15, 2007

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

This is our first cruise to Mexico (Ensenada) and the Monarch has exceeded every expectation. We booked our cruise through Cruiseonly.com with a live agent (Angela) and very happy that everything went so smoothly with her service (she even waived the fee after I pointed out a competitive price that was a little lower than her quote). We chose the lowest possible cost stateroom (guaranty category). We did not expect much about the room space but was surprised to find out that the room was so efficiently laid out that it appeared much more roomier the its actual footage (approx 122 sf). I could not say it would be worth the extra $ if we had decided to go for a more expensive stateroom (oceanview). We particularly enjoyed the food at the Windjammer but probably coud do without the Vincent's. I brought a suit for the formal dinner evening and found out that it was not necessary nor required - most young people (in 20's) would skip this dinner altogether and opt for less formal settings such as at the Jade or the Windjammer. The entertainments and activities at the pools probably were the highlights of our trip.

Pros: Fantastic and abundant food with the unparalleled service

Cons: Formal dining at the Vincent's (lack of food variety) and spas (always crowded)

Recommends Monarch of the Seas (RETIRED)? Yes!

Ensenada, Mexico
A 10-minute walk from the ship to downtown Ensenada should be the preferrable mode of transportation, next to taking a $3 round trip shuttle.
Don't Miss: Don't forget to stroll along the harbor and enjoy the seaside local food
