An older but well maintained ship with such great possibilities. Nice central area called The Centrum that was ornate and pleasing. Overall, I would not recommend this cruise line to anyone other than those wanting a typical bar type atmosphere for entertainment. The staff generally were rude. Lack of activites and poor use of available resources.

Food and Dining

Formal dining food offerings were okay. The only notable dish I had was a curry the last evening. The casual dining areas was pathetic. Forget food 24/7!! After the serving hours choices were very limited - pizza or cookies. Drinks such as tea, coffee, juices were not available. Had to pay for all sodas. On other cruise lines these were available 24/ 7 and free. Napkins, silverware was not available in some of the dining areas - had to go down a deck to find. Staff was gruff. We had to bus our own table many times. Coffee was cold, tasteless, no ice for ice tea. Wanted coffee/pastry for midmorning snack - not available unless you paid!

Entertainment

It's a pity that a ship with so many wonderful venues for activites and entertainment would provide such a dismal selection and variety. The scheduling of activities and entertainment was terrible. No repeat of performances. No variety of choices of entertainment. With several areas that could be used to provide different venues for different varieties of music only one was used - the pool deck. That's okay if you like LOUD, OBTRUSIVE, hip hop and drunken dancers. Other lines I've been on offered so many opportunities it was difficult to choose which one to go to. Not so here. NO CHOICES!!!

Service and Staff

The worst with very few exceptions. Our waiter (Francis, from India) and his assistant were exceptional. The entire staff generally was very rude. Seemed as if the guest were in their way. A lady at guest relations was observed being very rude, unpleasant and argumentative to others and us on several occasions. Ships staff were generally ignorant of ship and or other info.

Ship Quality

Large ship. Layout like most can be confusing at first. Rest rooms were poorly identified and hard to locate. Sometimes had to go up or down a deck or go fore or aft to find a rest room. Very inconvenient. Decor was nice, like most ships. Seems no one was assigned the task of picking up after guests and there were no carts, trash containers readily available for guest to place dirty dishes or trash. It spoiled the experience when you entered a nice area and saw dirty dishes/trash in plain sight. Ugh!

Cabin / Stateroom

We had upgraded stateroom. It would have been nice except the air conditioner did not work properly. A call to maintenance did not produce any correction, additional cooling.

La Bufodora (sp). We took the kayak tour. Very fun. Two for the price of one - though I thought it was a bit over priced.

Pros: Fairly nice stateroom with drawbacks!

Cons: Poor activities, rude staff

Recommends Monarch of the Seas? No.
