Ship: Mariner of the Seas
Cabin Type: Balcony
Traveled As: Couple

The ship itself was very nice, but lacked some of the amenities I've found on other cruise lines. The pools were small for 3,600 guests. The staterooms (mine was a balcony) were a nice size with both a sleeping area and a sofa area. I missed being able to eat outside too because there were no tables outside of the buffet.

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Both the formal dining room and the buffet were very good. There was a nice variety of menu items to choose from.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Many of the on board activities were "seminars" geared toward getting you to use the various spa and other on-board services. The on board activities that were not seminars were usually later at night (after 10:00 p.m.), and many of the activities and entertainment overlapped other desirable activities so that if you wanted to, for instance, be in the slot tournament, you couldn't attend the art auction, etc.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The on-board crew were extremely nice and very helpful. The personnel at the pier on embarkation tried to be helpful, but some were less than sympathetic when a problem arose.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It took a day or two to figure out you couldn't get from one end of the ship to the other on every deck. There were times you had to go up a deck or two to get to the other end, and then down a deck or two to get to where you wanted to be.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The stateroom was a decent size, but it wasn't until the day before the cruise was over that I discovered there was a hair dryer available in one of the drawers! (good thing I brought my own). The carpeting was pulling away from the wall in one corner, but it didn't cause a problem. The railings on the balcony were a bit "weathered" and needed to be sanded and re-varnished.

Pros: Efficiency of the crew

Cons: Sales pitch seminars

Recommends Mariner of the Seas? No.
