Review summary

After the refusal to help my wife in any way, I will no longer be cruising Carnival. They asked if we required assistance and I said yes and then they couldn't provide it. Way to drop the ball!

Embarkation

much smoother than expected

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Nice variety.

Entertainment

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Guest services dropped the ball when it came to wheelchair access for my wife. They flat out said they could not accomidate her. When we booked accessible cabin we were asked if we would need wheelchair assistance and stated yes and they did not provide that at all, not once! I will be going back to royal after this one for sure.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
ship was very clean but layout was a bit much. Traveling with someone who needs some assistance with walking and carnival refusing to help her it was rough since everything was so spread out. A good promenade would have been best, not spread all over.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
size and cleanliness was great. the alarm system was a bit much and people could set it off from the hallway which was not cool.

Ship tip

If you need assistance do not choose this ship or Carnival.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
getting on and off at Ports was smooth but getting off the ship in Port Canaveral was a mess and could have been done much different.

They told me that there would be chair assistance waiting for her when she got off the ship to help her get to Port. Never once did they accommodate that. When I asked they said I had to provide my own transportation when getting off the ship. When I went to guest services 4 times they said they would do it for remainder of cruise and ports but always called cabin later that night saying they couldn't provide. My point is, don't offer a service if you have no intention of providing it. Would have rented a scooter if I had known but they said he was all set. Very poor communication on their part. I even called twice before sail date to confirm!

I’m not sure what experience she had, however I will say, that my parents also booked an accessible cabin and selected wheelchair assistance needed. We were told to enter the terminal on parking deck 3, so that’s what we did. Parked and got him to the ramp on deck 3, where we were told, wheelchairs are located on Deck 1. As we were already parked, we had to wait about 10 minutes for someone to be radioed in with my Dad standing on a cane. (He can only walk very short distances) We did finally get the chair and after our hour or so of waiting inside the terminal, he was wheeled on. Which is the 6th floor. However, that’s where they drop you. Then, you have to go to Guest Services on the 8th floor at the BACK of the ship to purchase a separate onboard chair rental, which meant, trying to walk my Dad to the elevators, wait on an elevator (on embarkation day), and get him to the 8th floor where we sat him at nearest spot we could find. Then, I walked to guest services to pay for a wheelchair onboard. Once you pay for the chair, you wait about 15-20 minutes for them to bring you another chair—-to the guest services desk, not to the person needing it. So once I got the chair, I went back to midship where my Dad was sitting for what was now like 45 minutes, to get him in the chair. Now, when you leave, you have to repeat this process in reverse. Go drop the wheelchair off at Deck 8 Aft, but the wheelchair assistance for debarkation is at Deck 6 Fortune Teller Bar. Now, the other 3 of us who can well were carrying the luggage—up at 5 am, ready to get off, they won’t let us stand over at the wheelchair assistance area, so they had us try to walk my Dad all the way to Deck 6 FWD in the theater around everyone’s piled up luggage, to be sat for 15 minutes, and then released to walk BACK the same way we just came (still no wheelchair). We barely got down gangway until we had to call for a wheelchair. It was a total mess and I was extremely upset. Here’s the thing, the wheelchairs in the terminal and the ones you have onboard are the same company, same wheelchairs—Scootaround. It makes ZERO sense, why the wheelchair that picks you up at the parking deck at the terminal, can’t be the same wheelchair you take on the cruise and use during the week and the same wheelchair you roll off the ship to the parking deck when you leave. It was like a game of musical wheelchairs, and it was absolutely ridiculous.

On my Mardi Gras cruise in August, they wheeled me on and off the ship without any problems. What where they not able to provide for you?

It’s best to bring your own wheelchair.

They provide a wheel chair, but they won’t wheel you throughout the ship so I’m not sure what type of assistance you were looking for. Please elaborate

Never had issues with Carnival and assistance but then have traveled enough with them, O know what to expect. Can I ask the specific assistance you were requesting?

They give you names of companies that provide wheelchairs and such for cruises. They do not provide them for use.
