Review summary

We are so glad cruising is back. Also, so glad we were able to give our Grandson experiences he'll remember always. You can give children "things" that break, get lost or outdated or you can give them "Experiences" that they will lock in their memories forever. That alone is worth the price. Having the experiences on a new ship like Carnival's Mardi Gras made it even more special. Don't focus on the negatives.......look for the silver linings. You'll be much more satisfied.

Due to extra testing required for our 11 year old grandson, it took us 2 1/2 hours to get checked in at the port terminal and to our stateroom. As a Carnival Platinum VIFP member, I was hoping for faster embarkation as with our previous 16 Carnival cruises, but understood with the new health protocols, nothing was going to be the same as it was.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All dining areas were way above average. Especially impressed with the new layout of the Lido buffet. Italian restaurant, Guys Burger Joint and Big Chicken were icing on the cake....great venues.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Grandson had a ball with the pools, ropes course, waterpark and Bolt Seacoaster. Also enjoyed the Punchliner comedy club PG shows.

Too much to do, not enough time to take everything in. Maybe next cruise.

Children's Programs

Grandson was under 12 and they had closed the children's programs for his age.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
One of the best service and staff experiences we have ever had on a cruise!! All staff members were engaging and thanked us numerous times for being on the cruise. Most stated they had been out of work for 15+ months and were glad to be back. It showed with their attention to our needs. GREAT STAFF!!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Carnival did an outstanding job of configuring the new Mardi Gras. Especially like the different "Zones". Also liked the reconfiguring of the Lido buffet from previous Carnival ships. For being so large, the Mardi Gras was extremely easy to get around and find things. Carnival placed detailed ship maps at each elevator bank and made it easy to find your way around.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved the new bathroom layout. Finally....a shower with a glass door closure that doesn't leak water all over the floor. Bed was extremely comfortable. Our stateroom was right under the Lido Deck buffet area and we could not hear any noise coming from above. Very quiet and enjoyable.

Ship tip

If you're a seasoned cruiser, keep in mind that MANY thing have changed regarding health protocols and wellbeing, but it ultimately is for the passenger and staff's benefit. Don't get all uptight.....enjoy yourself!

Very fast getting off. Getting onto a bus to the airport took a little longer than we've experienced on previous cruises. However, our flight out wasn't until 3pm, so it wasn't a big deal for us.
