Review Summary

It was a very enjoyable first time cruise. The beaches of Atlantis and CoCo Cay were gorgeous. The food and service in the Main Dining Room was fun with an exceptional chocolate dessert. Entertainment was great fun. Not many on board activities. However, It was not inexpensive and Royal Caribbean knows how to generate profits. Consumer beware. Embarkation Parking is $85. Very little information or signage but easy enough. You are immediately fleeced for $10 for the sea pass lanyard. $125 total for parking and lanyards for 4. Day 1 Lunch Buffet in the Windjammer is edible. Busy. Food was warm at best. It is like a Golden Corral. I should have gone to Johnny Rockets for a more relaxing atmosphere. A few people clean their hands by licking each finger. Wash your hands before eating. Room Cabin attendant was fantastic. Room always clean and he was an abundance of information. Our rooms were available at 1pm as promised. Both rooms were clean. In our room, the vanity seating area was blocked with the small fridge. The cabinet door intended for the fridge was unhinged because of the power cable for the fridge. RC expected me to accept this modification and that I would give up ever getting it resolved. It took 8 hours and 6 people to resolve this issue. Unpleasant. Room had plenty of space deck 9. Shower was amazingly engineered. Good hot water. Sink plugged up once. It took 2 calls to resolve. Sink handle broke off but I put it back on. I gave up reporting things because each request was greeted with an unwillingness to correct problems at all levels of management and service. Separating the beds was a big request. I called earlier to get this resolved before the cruise and was told I would have Work it out with housekeeping on the cruise. They do not like to separate the beds. The room is dated. The couch fabric is worn out. The beds are hard but I loved the hard beds. The rooms are super quiet. Great sound proofing. So I slept great every night. The room is not pretty but it was everything that I needed. Needs to be updated though. The room Safe is mounted on the floor in the closet. If you physically cannot get down on all fours you will not be able to use the safe and RC does not care. If you have bifocals, it is difficult to read the keypad numbers. Plan to tip the cabin attendant extra because he will be outstanding. Plan for the additional tip. MUSTER DRILL Go to the Mister Drill at the last minute. Absolutely no reason to go early and wait on everyone who already knows to show up last. Pools - Poor Amenity I could not get access to the pools because there are too few pools for the number of people. Even though RC charges you $25 per towel to keep you from leaving them on chairs all day, no chairs are available anywhere near the pool because people drop their towels at the crack of dawn. I never used the two small pools or hot tubs. I never even got my feet in the pools. Totally overwhelmed by others. Rock wall - Poor amenity Never used the rock wall. Limited access. Poor amenity. Ice cream - Pitiful Long lines and a total mess of self serve ice cream. Machines broke and could not keep up with the demand. RC can do better. Deck chairs - get up early to reserve Not enough for the number of passengers. Towels - Terrible Service $25 rental fee is ridiculous. Public Bathrooms - Too few Very few public toilets. The 4 th Floor restrooms broke and leaked on two occasions. Use your cabin restroom. Centrum Beautiful and decorated for Christmas. Nice music. Bands - Outstanding The Rockport band in Boleros was awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to them. The best. Entertainment - great fun Signed sealed delivered was corny high school musical. Walked out. Comedian was fantastic and the ventriloquist was good too. Game shows were fun and entertaining Quest, Love and marriage, battle of sexes. All great fun. Karaoke was fun too. 70s dance party in Boleros was outstanding. The crew worked hard to entertain. The chorus line seating was horrific. The seats are literally falling apart as whole rows lean you forward and are beyond uncomfortable. RC short changes everyone by not fixing the seating. RCs decision. Food - MDR all the way The Service in the MDR was outstanding. The food was high quality and presented superbly. Chilled soups, escargot, shrimp cocktail, steak, salmon, pastas ... I loved the chocolate desserts and they had ice cream. Incredible experience. I recommend that if you book the cruise in advance that you request a 6 pm my dining time as well as a good table location away from the kitchen. Breakfast, Lunch, and dinners were all fantastic. The portion size was perfect. You will want to tip your servers extra because the service is beyond outstanding. Plan for the additional tip. The pizza was dominoes quality. Good at midnight. Compass Deli Good but odd hours. Very limited access. Johnny Rockets Never visited. Too costly. Add 18% to all posted prices. Bars Good service but weak but delicious drinks. Costly. I only saw 1 drunk and that was a very good thing. Be careful because all prices already include 18% tip. Room Service Continental breakfast is free and very convenient way to start the day. The paid breakfast will arrive warm but it is convenient and my kids loved the novelty. $7.95 plus 18% gratuity and they will give you the opportunity to tip even more if you want to. The additional tipping is confusing by design. Excursions Book before you go because the excursion lines are long with only one attendant who won’t give you much information anyway. Research on your own before you go on TripAdvisor. RC provides little instruction with the excursions. Once you have paid, they stop caring about the excursion. Atlantis was great but pricey. The beaches were breathe taking but dangerous. We found a sharp metal spike buried at the beach that Atlantis personnel were aware of but did not resolve before we found it. We were close to a total puncture tetanus wound with surgery to repair. You are not in the USA. Water park was great but nothing is explained and we missed a lot of the attractions because of absolutely no info from RC or Atlantis. RCs decision. $169 per person. Sat in chorus line theatre from 8:15 till 9 am listening to advertisements for CoCo Cay waiting for the Atlantis excursion to begin. RC can do better. One person gives you a sticker in 45 minutes. You don’t need to rent $25 towels from RC to go to Atlantis. Atlantis has plenty of towels included in your $169 per person fee. Again, no information from RC. CoCo Cay bungalow - Paradise Private and quiet beach. Beautiful. Your lunch will arrive at 12:30 pm and it is fast food quality and a big step below the free buffet which closes at 1:25 pm promptly. RC asks when you want your bungalow lunch delivered but all the lunches arrive at 12:30 for everyone so don’t believe what Excursions desk tell you. My advice is to go directly to the buffet when it opens. The bungalow is good for a quiet nap and a private beach. I saw a sting ray and lots of sand sharks and flying fish. Paradise. Amazing views. $250 The bar on the island has plenty to offer. Not to be missed. The straw market on CoCo Cay only accepts cash and does not post prices. Skip it. Guest Services - Overwhelmed Long lines filled with cruisers with unresolved issues. The assistant manager did not want to hear that I had already spoke to 5 people over the course of 7 hours. RC does not want to hear about problems because they are understaffed on a boat that is 25 years old in dire need of a maintenance overhaul. The boat will will be dry docked for 37 days. Beverage packages - Not worth it SKIP IT. You get plenty of free water. You can ask for lemonade, iced tea and coffee, juice for free. Parade of Flags - Not to be missed The international crew carries flags and performs dances from their countries. Very entertaining. Disembark Day Get up early Dined in the MDR at 7 am. Fantastic as always. We carried our luggage out. RC does nothing to manage the lines off the boat and you walk back and forth in the line to cover only a few yards with many RC helpers standing around with no one in charge. RC can do better. Conclusion The dining, entertainment, bar, and cabin service was outstanding. The MDR food and service was perfect. If I could have purchased this cruise for the advertised prices around $300 per person, I would say this was the best value vacation ever. Do your research and avoid travel agents. Call RC directly and be prepared to haggle or wait for the price you want. Maintenance is overwhelmed with this aging ship. The rooms are worn out and dated. DRY DOCKING During the 37 day dry docking, I suspect that RC will fix the plumbing issues and build a few more profit centers into the boat. I tried everything the cruise had to offer and had a great time. At the right price, I would do it again.
