Review summary

Well, The cruise itself wasn't bad, the staff were all really nice. Except the ship was showing signs of its age all over the place. The first night of the cruise the captain drove us straight through a storm, none of the decks were prepared for the wind or rain, the deck chairs were sliding, a small sign almost slammed into me when it fell over from the wind, on top of that the ship was leaning at an angle from the wind, I was on a carnival cruise a few years ago and they stopped for a storm that was in front of us. On top of that one of the doors leading to the outside on deck 12 broke and didn't close anymore unless someone forced it to close. The A/C in the cabin we had was trash and we had trouble sleeping, the A/C in the fuel kids club wasn't able to handle the heat and the room was always more like a sauna then a lounge. Carnivals Circle-C club was always cool and never had any issues. The ship had rotting floors on deck 12 near the front, most of it was rusting and didn't look very appealing, the food wasn't very good in fact on the last night of the cruise my son went to eat at the buffet and came back with a under cooked piece of steak which on deboarding day gave him food poisoning. The first stop at RC's private island was definitely not at all what they made it out to be. There were too many shells and other things in the water. As well as we saw a HUGE fish in the water. It was small, the food was okay, but they were letting people swim when there was definitely jellyfish in the bay, my son got his hand stung and another young boy got his whole leg stung. They were providing vinegar at the first aid area, which clearly told us they knew there were jellyfish in the bay, yet they were letting people continue to swim there. The second port of call was not too bad, we enjoyed the Blue Lagoon private island. although while deboarding the ship blew its emergency horn and were closing staircases, which definitely freaked out a lot of people because they gave no information as to why they had to do the emergency call, as well as on the last day of the trip the "day at sea" the ship was moving so slowly that if you went on deck you would start sweating like crazy. The ship needs to be brought in for maintenance and upgrades to the cabins and A/C systems. As well as they need to take out the "Emergency Exits" in the Fuel club, there is no need for them as people just hold the doors open and make the already sauna like room even hotter. The bars would close really early and my son would have to go to bed by 1 AM which he definitely didn't enjoy because night time is when it is actually cool enough and empty enough for them to spend time on deck. I am definitely going back to carnival because my son could enjoy being out at night as well as he could have better cooked food.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Undercooked steak that gave my son food poisoning and they closed all the food options too soon

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
there was almost nothing to do on the ship, you could lay outside and watch the movies they repeated every day or you could get in the overcrowded pools and hot tubs.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
They repeated things over and over again.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
The Fuel Club was always WAY too hot for my son to even want to go into the room to find friends.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff were extremely nice.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
shows signs of its age. rust everywhere needs to be brought in for maintenance. Definitely needs upgrades to cabins

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
A/C never got the room cool enough, otherwise PERFECT room.

Ship tip

Cancel your reservation and go on carnival. The ship is old and rusty, and has no good things to do onboard.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
VERY hot in port, but otherwise was fine.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

1 out of 5
Not worth spending time there, jellyfish in the bays stinging people. This island should be closed down as a risk to the well being of the cruisegoers

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
loved it, recommend going to Blue Lagoon

Sounds like a mama's boy

So you want fewer shells on the beach, emergency exits removed, kids running around at 1am,and the captain to make the ship go faster? Okay, then.

Was this before the refurbishment and upgrade of the Majesty of the Seas?

Not sure how old your son is but RC has a rule that kids need to be out of public areas by 1am, which I think is reasonable considering on my last Carnival cruise teens were running through the halls at 4am screaming.

I was on this same ship a month ago. It must have went really downhill in that month because we experienced none of this and were quite pleased with this aged ship. And I'm pretty sure every cruise line keeps supplies on hand in case of jellyfish stings. After all, they do live in the ocean so there's never a time they're not there. As far as the storm, I happened to be on Carnival Ecstasy in the exact same area (we did Nassau and Freeport 8/1-8/6). We sailed right into a thunderstorm, too. No big deal. And we only sailed at 11 knots the last night we were at sea. The issue was the lack of sea breeze at night because the winds were very calm. Ships slow down when they are nearing ports to arrive on schedule. I prefer to look at the positives, therefore, I've enjoyed every single cruise I've been on.
