HAL is more of a traditional cruise line, so if you're an adrenaline junky, or want a lot of sporty things like rock climbing, go carts, water slides, etc., this line isn't for you.

Don't expect the same level of entertainment and onboard activities that you find on much larger ships.

Enjoy the peace and view in the crow's nest. Decks 6, 11, and 12 have good viewing for photos or watching the sailing.

A smaller, older ship which has loads of character. A few little problems but nothing to impact the pleasure of sailing.

Don’t trust your expert HAL cruise consultant to choose a room for you.

Ignore the grouchy people that make up part of your fellow passengers. I'm not sure why they even bother going on a cruise....lol

Crow’s Nest is the place to be in the afternoons! The 7:30 Showroom is crowded, but there is plenty of seating at the 9:30 show.

My tip: no travel in the Maasdam and be careful of Cap. Rayn Whitaker, he is a bad man.

If it is still doing "EXC In Depth" you better investigate exactly what that means or you may be in for a big shock.

Make sure that you find out information on the ports visited before joining. The EXC onboard guides appear to just gather their information from google and are not very helpful

Be creative with your spare time. They need to provide more "fun" activities for individuals.

It was the most terrible cruise I have been to .Their service was very poor . we had to pay for everything in USD dollar even when the whole trip was happening in Aidtrallia and they didnt tell us while we were booking it .The ship was almost like a retiredment house and we didnt notify about that before .95 percent of people were 65+.Of course they were lovely people but it was not our plan to spend time and our holiday just with reading books and boring/ repeatetive stuff about the sea life ! No entertainment at all .I was in the cruise for 16 days and just 2 nights was musice nights .Absoulutly Nothing to do in the cruise.Food was terrible and every day the same menu without much variety. They droped us on the shore every time we supposed to see different ilands or city , without any transport option and we had to pay extra to get the taxi or any other transports . Not even any help . It was so noisy and we cant sleep well.the beds were not comfortable and I got back pai Their customer service wad very poor and confusing. It was almost waste of money and time to travel with them .The boring ship with no efford to make the guest happy as we were in holiday .It was just about getting your money in any way they could without offering a good service .the only posetive point about them is tsome of room staffs who were friendly.I will never ever travel with them again in my life and If you have plan to do it I shall say you will regret it just like us .I wont recommend them to any people in my network.

It isn't a super-ship but large enough to have most of the things that travelers want but small enough to avoid being overwhelmed by crowds.
