A fairly good cruise by GayleS

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

This cruise is mostly for older folks who aren't quite so active. My recommendation is for these type of people. Two large areas (casino and Crow's nest) were smoky so limited part of the ship access.

p This was the second Holland... by TrvlQueen1515

Sail Date: /

p This was the second Holland America Cruise that I#39;ve been on and loved both of them. The food was delicious. My favorite for breakfast was their French Toast, highly reccomend trying it. The staff and service aboard was excellent. I look forward to going on future cruises with Holland America.

Panama Canal MS Massdam by MichaelB22

Very nice ship in good condition. Crew and staff were all attentive to needs. Food was above average, and Pinnacle Grill was excellent. Well worth the additional cost.

A relaxing cruise by AlexandraK

Sail Date: /

Ship is very clean. Staff are wonderful! The food on the ship is poor - poor food selection and not tasty. Below HAL standards on the food. Otherwise, very enjoyable holiday

Really Bad Experience by David91052732

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Ship was old and in bad need of refurbishing throughout. Have cruised Holland America twice before and it was wonderful. Was very disappointed with the Maasdam. Tour to Bay of Fundy was a rip-off. Was high tide and didn't see anything. That was the main reason we took the cruise. Cruise line should have arranged the ports of call so the tide would be right for people to see it. Will never cruise Holland America again. Plan to go back to Celebrity.

Great Time on 1st Cruise by KevinR2

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Our experience on this cruise went well beyond our expectations. We had a wonderful time (on our honeymoon too). The service and food were outstanding. The only complaint is that there are some area's of the ship where the smoke smell was bothersome and the fact that you had to walk through the casino area (where smoking is allowed) to get to the Rotterdam dining area was not very pleasant. Once you got there though things were excellent in every way. Our "small" state room was very comfortable in every way (temp, space, storage space, bathroom, etc). We would definitely do this cruise again.

Fantastic Cruise Ship by JaniceP4

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

I thought it was fantastic. I loved the Crow's nest, Piano Bar, both pools & dining room. I will cruise on the Massdam & Holland America again in the future. Crew was my favorite part of it all. So friendly, made it so much more special for us.

Great cruise to Canada/New England by Becky68961485

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

We recently cruised to Canada/New England on the Maasdam. The ship is one of the smaller ships on Holland America line which made it very easy to navigate around. It was very clean and the staff was very attentive. We would highly recommend it. The ports of call provided a lot of history. Tours through the country side were excellent.

A stinky ship! by TomH8

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Family (older children)

The smeel in our cabin was so strong that we slept on the veranda on a mattress. The food was poor and the staff was never able to fix the stench that was in our cabin. 10 days of complete dissatifiaction. Common areas had old tattered furniture and seating was old, worn, and very uncomfortable/ Each chair on the ship had it own individual bottom print from being used far too much and fo far too long.

Time of our Life by JustinD2

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Wonderful Staff!! We had an interior stateroom. It was kept very very clean. My wife brought everything but the kitchen sink and our statesman totally helped keep it all organized. I am 28 years old and we were the youngest couple on the ship. That was no problem with us because we were after a relaxing get away and thats exactly what we got. VERY few children on Holland America as a whole. I think I seen one kid the whole time.

Best Cruise Yet by JackieC5

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Singles/Friends

We just returned from the 15 day Ft. Lauderdale to Montreal cruise. It was a wonderful cruise; one we will look back on for years to come. It started off with a negative which was assigning us the late dinner rather than the 6:00 time we requested months in advance. Other than that, everything was excellent. I could not believe all the closet and drawer space which I loved....no cramped up clothing that would require ironing before wearing. the cabins were very comfortable and the beds were great. Holland America is our favorite cruise line and we will continue to cruise with them.

Wow! What a crew. by MartinR2

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

This was the best cruising experience my wife and I have every had. I love repositioning cruises because you get to see a greater variety of ports with some stops that don't usually see very many cruise ships. This was the case with our itinerary starting from Fort Lauderdale and ending in Montreal. We really enjoyed all the ports but my favorites were Savannah,Ga (the people), New London,CT (the people and the 11 cannon salute welcome), and Quebec City (it's just beautiful). We hadn't been to the east coast before in our travels, (from Kansas), so this variety wetted our appetite for further exploration on land. We've been on 6 cruises on 4 different lines and the friendliness of the crew of the Maasdam is exceptional. You can tell that the humor, helpfulness, and joy of life begins with Captain Henk through his infrequent anouncements and from his appearances at various funtions. This is further promoted by Cruise Director Adam and all the staff. To encounter a crew member on the stairs while they're cleaning and receive a warm greeting and smile is wonderful. I must add that my wife and I were in the younger 5% of the passengers onboard. That is to be expected on a Holland America cruise of longer than 7 days. Even though most were older, they were a vibrant group who enjoy the quality that Holland America provides.

Terrible Practice by RobertJ17

Sail Date: / Traveled As:

While this story probably will not make the sources of many of your articles happy, it should be told. Recently I spent a good deal of time trying to put together the schedules for three couples to take a cruise. Trying to select destinations of interest to all was hard enough but the most difficult part was determining the length of the cruise and the dates. This being accomplished we made and received bookings on Holland America's Maasdam 01/05/08, cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale to the Southern Caribbean. We have been notified that HAL has chartered the entire ship to Jazzsea Cruises and our reservations have been canceled. This action simply to increase profits is deployable. If this is their "Signature of Excellence", I don't care to have their autograph. Robert T. Jones Booking 8K3VMQ

WOW! what a cruise, it was GREAT!!!! by FrankB163692785

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Holland America is the forth company that we have cruised with, they are a step above the rest. The crew was the best I have seen on a cruise ship always smileing and acomadating. The food and waiters were out of this world, they seemed to know what you wanted before you asked for it(they were amazing) The wine selection was fantastic and priced right. We loved the entertainment, the shows were on a par with Vegas and the multi piano bars are above and beond the competition. The only problem I have after this cruise is getting back into my clothes. We will use Holland America and book it thru Alaska Air in the future---the really big thing, all those air miles. I like the pre payment of tips, it saves a lot of time.
