French Polynesia by MMurrah

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Leadership on this ship was bad. Captain is arrogant and had zero personality. Hotel direct Florin was the exception. He was absolutely all in and did a fabulous job. If there was a problem he fixed it, then followed up with us to let us know what had been done. Best ship hotel director ever! Best room stewards ever! Food? Here’s a shocker for you: on a 24 day French Polynesia cruise where everywhere you stop is lush with bananas and coconuts... you can’t get EITHER on board!!! About 10 days into the cruise I asked why and was told by the food and beverage director that the ship buys NOTHING from any of the places we visit!! That ALL THEIR FOOD, 100%, comes from the US because one time they had a problem with food purchased elsewhere. So this cruise left from Singapore, then took on more passengers in Brisbane, then more in Auckland. And all our food was from the US! So zero bananas for us. That was a problem for MANY passengers. I asked the food and beverage director why we couldn’t have some tropical fruit sorbets like coconut and was told they buy them all from the US also and don’t make them. He was insulted when I asked! But confirmed that they don’t. This was my first (and last) Holland America cruise. I’ll stick with Celebrity and NCL thank you very much. No problems with either.

Great round trip to Singapore and the Far East. by Hakapa

Overall we had a great time. Given this overview, we will likely go back to Vietnam and do a land based tour.

Great Ports, Ship & Crew, HAL's "EXC In Depth" Experience Was Terrible by kevinheaney

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

It has been 6 years since we did our last HAL cruise and we could see a definite difference in the on board experience. Cost cutting is very evident and although we are 4 star mariners would only choose HAL again if the itinerary was unique and not offered by anyone else. Such a disappointment from what was one of our favourite cruise lines

Christmas and New Year cruise by rmh

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

This was a cruise on a smaller ship. It was disappointing to see that the dress code for gala dinners was not strictly adhered to. On New Years eve there was no balloon drop, just a deck party on the lido. The biggest let down was the lack of Professional entertainment in the theatre at night. Not many activities organised during the day either which was poor, especially on sea days. There was no Destination expert as such and the company running the excursions did not seem to have the knowledge of say Princess staff

Terrible service ms maasdam by Sherrysh

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Singles/Friends

It was the most terrible cruise I have been to .Their service was very poor . we had to pay for everything in USD dollar even when the whole trip was happening in Aidtrallia and they didnt tell us while we were booking it .The ship was almost like a retiredment house and we didnt notify about that before .95 percent of people were 65+.Of course they were lovely people but it was not our plan to spend time and our holiday just with reading books and boring/ repeatetive stuff about the sea life ! No entertainment at all .I was in the cruise for 16 days and just 2 nights was musice nights .Absoulutly Nothing to do in the cruise.Food was terrible and every day the same menu without much variety. They droped us on the shore every time we supposed to see different ilands or city , without any transport option and we had to pay extra to get the taxi or any other transports . Not even any help . It was so noisy and we cant sleep well.the beds were not comfortable and I got back pai Their customer service wad very poor and confusing. It was almost waste of money and time to travel with them .The boring ship with no efford to make the guest happy as we were in holiday .It was just about getting your money in any way they could without offering a good service .the only posetive point about them is tsome of room staffs who were friendly.I will never ever travel with them again in my life and If you have plan to do it I shall say you will regret it just like us .I wont recommend them to any people in my network.

Sailed on the 14th October... by Madge01

Sail Date: /

Sailed on the 14th October around French Polynesia on Maasdam, the ship, the crew and other passengers ( a few eccentric passengers) were all great. No complaints at all. The ship has had a refurbishment and looks and feels really good. No complaints on the the food anywhere on the ship either it was above my expectations. It is a quiet ship that is more for relaxing than doing lots of activities.

Easter Island spectacular!! Great island cruise but not to return to same locations on same cruise. by rhulgan

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

We loved some of the small islands, Easter Island and Peru...but disliked when we returned to some of the islands again to fulfill the 48 days.... repeating itineraries. Tahiti was not a great island !

Easter Island and more by dsquare

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Singles/Friends

The overall itinerary was fantastic, with Easter Island being the main drawing card. The stops in Costa Rica were disappointing because of road blockages most of the excursions were cancelled. The voyage southward toward the equator was rather cool with overcast skies in large part but when the ship got to Easter Island the weather turned great and remained so for the rest of the voyage. The captain made a great decision on the way to Easter Island by changing course to avoid a storm which made the voyage more comfortable and gave us great weather for visiting the Island. The voyage to and through French Polynesia was great.

Fraudulent advertised port-of-call at Pitcarin Island. by twendling49

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Poor cabin conditions at the start of the cruise and the fraudulent advertising/marketing of Pitcairn Island as a port-of-call made an otherwise enjoyable cruise disappointing.

Horrible by drrose

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

This was a disappointing and horrible cruise that I would not recommend. The ship was old, and work was constantly being done. My stateroom smelled of paint and the Lanai which I paid additional for, was not accessible most of the days! The ports were boring, and the shore excursions were poorly run. Stay away from this cruise line and this destination. I have made a complaint to this line and they has offered me $250 for another cruise and this is after I have told them I would not cruise with them again. Insulting!

Good Holland American cruise. by jrsox

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

As this was our second time on the cruise we knew what to expect. However, it seems they have relaxed their rules for using the dining room. Rules were not enforced on a uniform basis. This caused our only problem on the cruise. Food, service and our room were excellent. Very relaxing with smooth waters. Would not recommend Sydney as a stop. Very small town with very little to do.

7 day Canada cruise by chefchampagne

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Family (older children)

Our cabin attendant was very kind and friendly, staff overall was engaging. This was the first cruise for my sister and I, and while we enjoyed the fast paced tempo of a new port everyday I don’t think either of us would choose this cruise line again. We had the most fun when we were off the boat wandering around the port cities. We chose not to do the excursions, which overall were pretty expensive and mostly took you away from the cities themselves. I was nervous all week eating on the ship that I was going to get sick from eating gluten. My sister has an onion allergy and was also nervous when she asked what she could have. Staff in the dining room just wants to hustle you through the line like cattle and it was hard to communicate. I’ll probably try another cruise, but on another cruise line.
