I was disappointed with the constant pressure to spend and buy more in the spa after I had already purchased three expensive spa treatments and special access to the thermal room. Vitamins, orthotics, soaking solutions, they just would not give up. Unfortunately, despite many other positive experiences with the food and service, this overwhelms my memory. I loved the service and the food was very good. There was lots to do and see.

This is the first cruise we had taken in 15 years. Our experience with American Airlines and Holland America could not have been better regarding registration, documentation, etc. The staff was very friendly and efficient on board the ship. Canada is beautiful and weather was very pleasant. We actually registered for another cruise in 2019 because of our experience this time.

Maasdam is old and warn and in need of updating desperately. Service in the dining room, lido deck and bar by pool are extremely understaffed. Service is friendly but so slow and unsatisfactory!

It was great , relaxing, seeing beautiful and untouchable cities and let me describe in one word, it was unpredictable.

THE CRUISE OVERALL WAS EXCELLENT. SERVICE AND ENTERTAINMENT WAS GOOD. THE EXCURSIONS WAS WELL ORGANIZED AND HANDLED GREAT. IT WAS A WONDERFUL CRUISE AND WE ENJOYED VERY MUCH.

We arrived in Montreal a day early and enjoyed the city. The cruise was very relaxing. Much quieter than on the larger ships.

Beautiful countryside; so many excellent shore excursion it was a difficuly choise as to which ones to select. Food and entertainment was very good. Have a wonderful time.

The only good thing on this cruise is the nice staff, ok ports and good food. I liked how they decorated their food. It was my first and last time with Holland America line. I will never travel again. It was a boring cruise. Many other passengers complained of nothing to do on the ship. Princess cruise is still better even though they have a older clientele the entertainment and the cruise director were way better. The cruise director on this ship does not even acknowledge the passengers. No wonder the entertainment and activities suck. The ship looked haunted and deserted after 8pm. I would not even recommend for families or groups traveling together. Be prepared to enter a ship that is gloomy with a touch of culinary flair. My advice for first time Holland America line cruisers do not even bother.

We have taken 10 cruises on 4 lines but this was our first Holland America experience. We felt that, overall, this cruise included the best food and entertainment of any we have taken. The food was delicious. We especially appreciated that the desserts were actually sweet. The quality, professionalism and skill of the entertainers was superior to that found on our other cruises. The ship offers fewer options for fun (such as rock-wall, golf, water features, etc.) and the program offers fewer entertainment options. But it we enjoyed being mellow.

Food great. Dining hosts snobby and smug as are the bartenders. Funny those are the ones that need to have the personality. The rest of the crew is top notch. Starting with the Captain and Cruise Director. We had a Promenade 6 room. Plenty of space. Gaudy decor in the boat - like Vegas, but I liked it... like going back in time. Going back on the sister boat Veendam to Mediterranean next year.

Our cabin stewards, Try and Eko, were excellent, and our cabin was immaculate. Try and Eko were very friendly and made us feel special and welcome. We ate our breakfasts and lunches in the Lido Market. The first day we ate in the Lido Market, we sat at a table and the name of our waitress was Wimonsin Nuipree, and she asked us our names. Then, every time she saw us again, she always greeted us by our first names. Wow, that made us feel so special, welcome, and part of the family. Very great experience!!!

Great cruise, great entertainment, great service and good food.

Would help if this cruise would gives u more time in Honolulu & Papeete otherwise a wonderful cruise.

Very good itinerary. Lower staterooms needs to be brought up to date, for the $$ you spend for them. Better training for room stewards and wait staff and folks incharge of the muster stations.

Had a great time. A lot of sea days, I'm surprised I enjoyed the sea time so much. Looking forward to our cruise next year.

Excellent experience! It was relaxing but not at all boring.

This was a relaxing and enjoyable cruise, which was educational in a way, because we get to see how people in other countries live.

We would like to share our greatest disappointment about cruising with Holland America with Maasdam from New Zealand to San Diego, on the 1st of February, 2018 Our holiday turned out into a disaster due to problems with accommodation on board. We have booked two cabins - a suite and an ocean view cabin. Throughout the whole cruise we had a lot of issues with our suite resulting in our lack of sleep and sickness. As a result our holiday was completely spoiled and the value of money invested absolutely did not match the promised pleasant experience. We had issues with A/C in our suite throughout the whole cruise and the friendly crew after numerous attempts could not solve the problem. Either the A/C did not work and we had to face the heat or it was impossible to turn it down letting the coldest air possible in the suite, so that we had to put on layers of clothes and still got sick. In addition to the numerous sleepless nights, we were exposed to the toxic smell of the paint through A/C during the sea days, which was coming from the frequent repairs on different decks. However, the worst part began when we smelled unexpected toxic carbon monoxide that was penetrating through the A/C for a couple of days. As it turned out a lot of passengers made complaints about that toxic smell, but the problem was again not solved quickly. The staff reacted with the reply that this smell depends on the direction of the wind and it is an ordinary matter. It is crucial to emphasize that carbon monoxide may result in fatal end, especially, when a person is in a deep sleep and breathing it in. In our case, children had been having a headache for three days and the adults for almost four days with the signs of nausea and inability to live a proper life. This experience may lead to health problems in the future. Highly disappointed and with the fear that the toxic smell of carbon monoxide would appear again, we started to discuss the option for disembarkation in Honolulu. Our only request was reimbursement for the rest of the trip. We even did not even ask for compensation for all the sleepless previous nights on cruise. To our greatest surprise, we were declined the refund for the rest of the cruise. The only gesture was an offer of $2000 for our whole company - 6 people! Considering the fact that we have invested in our holiday almost C$50,000 we are completely unsatisfied with the value of money we have spent on this cruise. Yet, the most important part from this cruise experience was the issue with the toxic carbon monoxide. It is absolutely irresponsible from the side of the cruise company that passengers might get exposed to any toxic smells and gases.
