Review SummaryThis was our seventh cruise, but our first with Holland America and on the ms Maasdam. Most of our past cruises had been for seven days, but this was a wonder eleven day cruise. The Maasdam is an older ship, but beautifully appointed and well kept. The Rotterdam (formal dinning) and the Lido (casual dinning) Restaurants featured some of the best food of any cruise we have experienced. The service was exceptional in both restaurants. It was fun to have our server on Lido call us by name after having heard them only once. (Our only concern was that food in the Lido restaurant was not available 24x7 as on some other cruise lines. But of course, there is always room service.) There was always something to do onboard Maasdam or you could do nothing at all. We were surprised to find that a ship of this size featured an indoor movie theater, a well equipped gym, and a three deck Atrium. Our stateroom was both cozy and spacious including a bathtub and not just a cramped shower. The shore excursions were well planed, but the private island offered a wonderful opportunity to just relax and enjoy. Overall, our cruise experience on the Maasdam was one to the best.

Ports of Call
Pros: Mid-size ship with fewer passengers than the larger ships we have sailed on and a better crew to passenger ratio. The state rooms were slightly larger than some we have experienced.
Cons: Older ship that does not have some of the amenities of the newer and larger ships.
