This was our seventh cruise, but our first with Holland America and this was a wonder eleven day cruise. The Maasdam is an older ship, but beautifully appointed and well kept. The Rotterdam (formal dinning) and the Lido (casual dinning) restaurants featured some of the best food of any cruise we have experienced. The service was exceptional in both restaurants. It was fun to have our server on Lido call us by name after having heard them only once. There was always something to do onboard Maasdam or you could do nothing at all. We were surprised to find that a ship of this size featured an indoor movie theater, a well equipped gym, and a three deck Atrium. Our stateroom was both cozy and spacious including a bathtub and not just a cramped shower. The shore excursions were well planed, but the private island offered a wonderful opportunity to just relax and enjoy. Overall, our cruise experience on the Maasdam was one to the best.

Pros: Sailing out of Norfolk was extremely convenient.

Cons: Food was not always available in casual dining as with other cruise we have experienced.
