OUTSTANDING VACATION by Cruiser452

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Royal Caribbean continues to do so many things right and continues to strive to do things even better.  This cruise was no exception.  We experienced the Royal Caribbean  difference up until the last day

.

Unfortunately the day of departure continues to be a problem if you have a family member who needs wheel chair assistance when exiting the ship.  This time was the worst so far.  There was no organization when it came to the process of receiving assistance.  The person in charge was a low level cruise staff member who seemed overwhelmed and confused.   Instead of listing people as they arrived and by their departure number he randomly wondered around the area gathering information.  He never started where he left off instead going to a completely part of the room.  They had around 11 crew members to assist with departure so that was not an issue.

The competition to R.C. does such a better job on this issue.  First of all they have some one to greet you as you arrive.  They have an area set up with coffee and pastries for you.  They start the process by asking who in the group has the first departure numbers and then getting that group ready.  The process then continues in an orderly fashion until everyone is listed.

This was not the first time R.C. has let us down on this issue, but it was poorest attempt on their part that I have experienced.

Another Cruise by funlivin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

14th cruise, 7th with Royal Caribbean. This would have to rate in the bottom of the group. Weather this time a year is a definite factor in cruising between November and March, do not expect to  be out on deck, if you can stand the rain the wind will blow you off the ship.

Due to a medical emergency the ship did not even go to Honduras, just another day of rain and wind at sea.

Costa Maya as a port was the most disappointing place I have ever landed. Don't expect anything, the ruins tour takes over an hour on a bus to get to, and then another hour to return. Once there just a couple of rock and dirt pyramids.

First time in 7 cruises with RC we decided to try the specialty restaurants. Worst steak I have ever been served. Save your money and go to the main restaurant, the food and service are far better.

Great except no Roatan by jskiplee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Main reason for trip was to visit Roatan (we had never visited there in previous Western Caribbean cruises and my uncle and girl friend have a timeshare there and we just wanted to see what they saw all the time), but due to heart attack cruiser we had to return to the Caymens for her to get medical help and that 8 hour plus return and back to where we turned back meant no Roatan.  On to Costa Maya, which was a plain junk port--stayed on shore for one hour, which was too long and most cruisers did the same.  Wish they had gone on to Roatan and skipped Costa Maya...in fact, please ask Royal Caribbean why pass up an excellent place like Roatan for a complete dump like Costa Maya.  Only part of trip that was terrible.

Worst Cruise I've taken out of 3 cruise lines by ettcruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

First, the redeeming qualities of this ship: The SHIP itself is big & beautiful, some of the evening shows were absolutely phenomenal, the rock wall climbing and on-board surfing simulator were challenging and fun, and MOST of the staff were SO awesome. But the food and desserts were AWFUL, and the same foods were served every day on the buffet deck. There were a FEW good things available, but MOST of the food was cheap and gross. (I asked around, and LOTS of other passengers, old and young, were very disappointed too) The soft-serve machine is ONLY open 11AM to 7PM - annoying! The hot tubs were closed even for the ADULTS before 9PM. (Carnival and Disney have 24 hour food and soft serve ice cream, VERY late night hot tub hours, and no fee for room service between midnight and 5 AM) The rock wall climbing and surf simulator are only open during certain parts of the day, rather than ALL day. The ice skating they brag about? Forget it. Only open for the performers, the teen group, and very specific activities for SHORT windows of time, on certain days. They don't just open up the ice for you to skate on when you want to during the day. The on board itineraries are lame. Prepare to be BORED, unless you want to spend ALL day doing nothing but gambling in the casino that reeks like an ash-tray, drinking, shopping, or spending money in the spa for some treatment, supplement or body care product. There were occasional, SHORT trivia games, scavenger hunts, and dancing activities each day, which filled up maybe 2 of the hours between 10AM to 6PM  (8 hours) until the evening shows began. You have to get tickets for the on board shows, within 2 hour windows on certain days. Otherwise you get bad seats, usually NOT beside your family or friends, and last-minute seating. Some people with tickets don't even show up for the performances. I think it should be first come, first served with no saving seats!  (That works great on Carnival and Disney ships) Large screen, outdoor movies were nice, but too infrequent, & overlapped with evening performances, which was SO unnecessary. (Disney has much better activities and many MORE, even for adults!) Our cabin attendant didn't clean our room for 3 days, (we found out LATER it was because my teenagers were in the room without me there when he came to clean - why didn't he just say something?) and we ran out of toilet paper twice, AFTER we had already reported that we were almost out. (3 girls in one room.)  Finally, we completely skipped our port in Honduras because; rather than getting a poor woman with a "medical emergency" a helicopter ride back to shore in a FRACTION of the time; we wasted 8 hours by turning the whole ship around and returning to Grand Cayman when we were 4 hours away! What kind of "medical EMERGENCY" can wait 4 freakin' hours?!!!!

The ship should be named: Library of the Seas by Mh4578

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

When the mid cruise movie is "On Golden Pond" it should give a clue to the type of experience this is.  The service was good, the food was good and the entertainment was very good but there wasn't anything exceptional about the cruise. The Chops restaurant was not great (specialty dining), the boat was showing some age and the experience was geared to a much older clientele.  The kids program was very good but still needed some improvement.  Considering that we could have gone on 2 Carnival cruises for the same cost, I don't feel or see the value on Royal.  One last thing, the crew works very hard but very few seemed to enjoy their work.  Some were great but definitely fewer than on other cruises I've taken.

cruise to western carribean by connielaqui

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Royal carribean shows were fantastic Music  and Dj were diversified we listen to all of them they were all great. Scheduling of performers needs improvement so  everyone can enjoy the music without conlict. It seams that performers were scheduled all at the same time  and finished at the same time and nothing to watch in between.

Just to let you know that I got sick on the way home with diarrhea. Did anyone get sick. Just curious . But overall experience is excellent

A great Anniversary Celebration ! by Memejuju

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our 40th anniversary celebration.  My second time with Royal Carribbean, my husband's first.  We have always done Carnival in the past.  This cruise was very laid back and chilled for us, as that is what we wanted.  We had a very good time, but I feel like the food was not as good as on any Carnival ship I've been on and I didn't find a good variety of things to do on the ship either.  But for what we wanted, it was perfect!!  Nine nights was a bit long, too, I will stick with 7 nights in the future.

cleanliness, well thought out entertainment by Cruiser202

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

We enjoyed all of the ports,  and the layout of the ship was terrific.  The Staff exceeded our expectations.

The cleanliness of the ship was extremely appreciated.  Loved our room Stewardess; Kenta.  Most of the staff went above and beyond our expectations.

Will definitely recommend the Liberty to our friends and have booked another cruise for ourselves.

Mostly Great by russport1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

Overall this was a really fine cruise. We love the layout of the Royal Carribean ships with the long central mall. The food was OK with the fish dishes being dry, and the crew was wonderful as always.

Liberty goes to Galveston by billb00

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

From the moment we left New Jersey, until we arrived in Galveston, the seas were pretty calm, and Liberty rode smooth and fast. Arrival in Puerto Rico at 4:30 meant little time to see much before dark. Two Royal Caribbean excursions on St. Thomas (Jeep Adventure) and St Martin ((Land and Sea tour) were unexpectedly inexpensive and very entertaining. Then on to Curacao where the stores were closed (Sunday) but we were on a great AT^V ride around the Eastern part of the island. On to Grand Cayman and then Galveston.

Seven sea days gave us plenty of time to relax and read. The Ice show was excellent, the stage shows and entertainers in the theater what you'd expect. My Time dining gave us exposure to lots of other cruisers (who knew there were so many Texans with Diamond or higher status!). and the food was good if not exceptional.

A disturbing trend at RCI on these mega ships is the creeping loss of free services in favor of paying for slightly enhanced versions (e.g. no soft ice cream machines, but you can buy a cone at Ben & Jerrie's, cupcake shop. etc.).

Great time by tocruiseornot

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

All in all this cruise was very enjoyable. Food in the Dinning room was very good. Buffet food was good but almost always the same choices. Entertainment was very good but a pain standing in a crowd before the doors open to get a good seat. Transfer from the ship to the airport not very organized. Crew was very helpful and friendly. Getting on the ship at Bayonne Nj was very quick and easy.

Nice Ship by ccruise106

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

Loved the ship. We had anytime dining but requested the same table every night because the waiter and his assistant were friendly and gave great service. However, we did think that the buffet and the food in the dining room could have been better.

Most nights the entertainment was great.  In the casino the slot machines are too crowded and you can't walk directly through to the other side and the seating is poor.

The ports were great except for Puerto Rico.  We docked around 1 which doesn't give much time in port, so we walked around Old San Juan.  It didn't seem very clean and we would not care if we ever went back.

We definitely would sail on Liberty of the Seas again and are looking forward to going on the Ant.hem of the Seas

Wedding and Honeymoon Cruise by waedris

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

This was a great cruise for our honeymoon and wedding which took place in St Thomas. The service, food and entertainment on the cruise was excellent! The itinerary could have excluded San Juan, if you have been there once, no need to see again.

We did have a few minor issues with the cruise, compared to RC's usual excellence: 1- The Internet service was terrible to non-existent. If you had an issue and asked staff, you got three different answers(before you got the correct one).. Particularly when explaining and clarifying Diamond level benefits. And finally, many of the activities on the Promenade seemed to be disorganized and poorly planned, leading to frustrated passengers and even some hot tempers as there was jostling and pushing for prime viewing spots. If I wanted to go to Disney to experience this type of behavior, I would have gone there.

Awsome!!!! by bridgettgranger

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

Liberty of the Seas is a beautiful ship.  Saturday Night Fever:  I thought I was on Broadway.  There was a 70's night where everyone dressed up in their favorite 70's attire and danced the night away.  The food was excellent.  It did not matter if you went to Main Dining or the Wind Jammer, or the other little cafe's.  (Ben and Jerry's and The Cupcake Shoppe).

Awesome 60th Birthday cruise by bmsmrsc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

This was a great cruise - despite heavy winds in Bermuda. Mee-tu stateroom attendant provided the most excellent service. Portofino restaurant was amazing - especially our server Vasile. Entertainment was great - especially the ice show and "Up in the Air" Cirque de Soleil type show. Cabin on Deck 10 with a balcony had a super view. Easy embark/disembark.

Cruise ship general by WandaChrist

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

This ship does not have enough entertainment I was bored some of the time I think they should have a varity of good entertainers each night The food was terrible went to the captains dinner which the food should be great for this event the food when you finally received it was cold seem like they didn't have enough help so you have to wait what seems like forever so we just ate in the buffet which wasn't that great but at least you had more choices and the food was hot Will not ever go on this ship again I like the bigger ships which the service, food and entainment are so much better and worth the extra cost
