Liberty of the Sea after refurb by BGPK777

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The refurbishment of Liberty of the Sea was a great success. The additions and changes were very nice.

Chop's was outstanding for a shipboard restaurant. However, Giovanni's was not as good as the old Portafino. The menu choices were not very good and the appearance lacked the style of Portafino.

We did not sample Sabor, the Mexican restaurant because the menu items did not appeal to us. We are accustomed to Tex Mex and the fare at Sabor's was not appealing.

One highlight was the Spanish guitarist at Boleros Tequila Bar. He was outstanding and we visited the bar several times to hear him.

We booked this cruise to celebrate our 53rd anniversary and notified Royal Caribbean of our anniversary. The only recognition of our special event was a card from our cabin attendant and a note from the boutique to buy some jewelry. The ships customer relations did not acknowledge our special event. When I went to to customer relations and asked why nothing was done, they stated hey had a special package for a fee and that was all. Finally the agent offered us a bottle of wine, which turned out to a rather cheap bottle of white wine. So much for our celebration. We went to Chop's on our anniversary and they provide us a free dessert and a great meal.

This was the first time we were on a ship as large as the Liberty of the Sea. The state room was a typical Royal Caribbean balcony stateroom. The choice of TV news channels was limited to CNN and HLN which were intermittant as the ship transited the Caribbean Sea.. I would have like to see Fox News or some other news outlet. The main theater did not appear to be as large as other ships we have been on. With 3700 people on the ship it was difficult to get a seat to see the shows.

While the Liberty of the Sea is a beautiful ship with great venues, 3700 people is too many for us. The crowds boarding and disembarking was to much. We prefer smaller ships with fewer people, say around 2000.

Awesome! by collectcows

We had the best time in our cruise. The staff was spot on with housekeeping, dining and play time. Casino -a must is the craps table gang. We laughed and cut up with them for hours.

Of all of the excursions offered, the most fun we had was on the Experience Jamaica. There were no reviews for this excursion so we took a chance. We learned all kinds of neat stuff about Jamaica including from the stop at the school with 3-5yr olds. They were a delight.

Royal Caribbean hosted a superb cruise. On board entertainment was excellent.

Our booking process through Cheap was fast easy and accurate. I highly recommend the All Inclusive Dolphin Swim and Ride at the Dolphinaris in Cozumel.

Ok cruise by upstatemom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Let's face it, you're on a cruise.  That alone makes it a great experience!  This was my 4th cruise--2 with RCCL, and 2 NCL.  We had a balcony cabin facing aft, which has the best view and the largest balconies.  The room was spacious and attractive, albeit dated.  There were only TWO electrical outlets--both at the 'vanity' area.  For a family of 4 with iphones, ipads, etc., this was problematic!  And when it comes time to plug in blow dryers and curling irons... the screeching!  the drama!  And NO plugs bedside or by the couch.  Not to mention, in the bathroom.  The beds were hard as rocks.  I cannot emphasize this enough.  It was beyond uncomfortable--it was painful, and kept me from sleeping most the time.  The pillows were neither feather nor foam, but filled with some kind of thin stuffing; and they may have been 2" thick, at the most.  Just awful.  The provide NO amenities except for some cheap 2-in-1 shampoo in the shower.

One of the primary reasons we booked this cruise was for the 'boomerang slide' which was closed for maintenance throughout our entire cruise.  Nothing about this on the website.

The buffet, Windjammer, was excellent.  Had a good meal and a good visit every time.  Would have preferred if the back were 'open air' like it is on NCL, but at least it had lots of windows and good views.  Food options were numerous and delicious!

The main dining room was HORRIBLE!  Just AWFUL!  Poor, slow, and inexperienced waiters, food selections were VERY LIMITED, repetitive, and basically disgusting.  We only 'ate' there 3 nights, and I usually left mid-meal in disgust.  The décor was lovely, but the lighting was operating room bright and there was no music or it was inaudible.

Chops Grill was amazing!  Slow but competent service, pleasant ambiance, and the food was amazing!!  Definitely worth it!

Sabor was good.  Different.  New restaurant definitely has kinks to work out; but we enjoyed ourselves.  Jalapeno-cucumber margarita was AMAZING!!

Son and hubby loved the flow rider.  Mommy and daughter enjoyed the spa treatments!

Comedy shows were hilarious, but other shows were crappy!! (Like watching a bad high school talent show!)

Ports were nice.  Loved Little French Key on Roatan.  Roatan, itself, was very dirty and poor.  Snorkeling in Belize was AMAZING!  But the ride to get out there was LONG and PAINFUL in a crappy boat.  However, it was so worth it, we'd do it again!  The tender process in Belize was a NIGHTMARE!  People with RCCL shore excursions got ALL the first boats so that people with tenders 1-3 were left standing in the hot congested hallways for over an HOUR and a HALF!  (People w later tenders than that probably missed their excursions.)

Cozumel was fun.  Had the BEST port area of the bunch!  We did an independent island tour with swimming and tequila tasting.  Not much of a tour, but the tequila stop and beach stop were fantastic!!

Sailing from Galveston was a logistical nightmare and added another $300 to our cost getting transfers out of Houston Hobby.  We would not do that again.  Plus it was about an hour each way in the car.

<img class='agent-replacement' src='/images/hideagent.png'> dropped the ball by giantslover

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Despite several pre cruise calls to they fumbled the ball.

All the promises of online credit and special goodies never reached my RCL account.

To make matters worse RCL refused to call to help rectify the problems.

Since I travel or cruise once per month, bought a jr suite I expected far far more.

Gavelston is a nightmare to sail to or from.

Beyond that the cruise was nice when the RCL staff wasnt calling us to sell packages ...

Review by kevinduke

Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall cruise experience was positive. HH did a good job of keeping me updated from time of booking to cruise. I did not book excursions on RC or HH. The cost

did not reflect perceived value. Used Trip Advisor.I was not previously aware that gratuities were an added cost. The drink costs and packages were extremely overpriced. The cleanliness of ship was exceptional. The stateroom attendant was very good. The Chops Grille experience was very disappointing . Food quality was mediocre and service was terrible there. Main dining staff was good

My Vacation on the Liberty of the Seas by ginnydavis5555

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a very enjoyable cruise.  We got on the ship without much delay and got into our cabins fairly quick.  Food was very good and the servers were wonderful.  Our dinner companions were all about our age and that was nice - we always had good dinner conversation.  My only complaint is that Royal Caribbean goes to the same places all the time.  We have taken the Western Caribbean cruise twice and don't want to take it again.  Need some new places!

Disembarking has been a nightmare in the past, but this time we were impressed with the way it was handled and the speedy exit from the ship.  Customs had many agents on duty and that was another plus.  All in all I would recommend this cruise to anyone.  The convenience of leaving from Galveston is a real draw as I am not crazy of all the hastle of flying.  April is also a wonderful month to travel and we have done six cruises in the past and all have been in April-early May.  It is a wonderful way to travel - very relaxing.

Starship Liberty by paultroutsr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I set sail on Liberty of the Seas as our first time aboard a Royal Caribbean ship. We had cruised on Carrnival, Princess, and Norwegian in the past. We were told that we would love your ship and we were not disappointed. We did enjoy the ship very much so. I was a little surprised to hear my wife say that this was her favorite ship thus far. (She loves Princess ships and so do I.) All in all, we decided that we will cruise again on your ships. Incentives of course always helps.

Liberty of The Seas by dckuban

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Cruise was good. I would not choose to ever go back to Belize as the ship has to dock about 15-20 min from the port, plus, there is not much to see and do there unless you take an 1-1.5hr bus ride. We went into town, walked around and headed back to ship. Listening to others on the ship, no one was impressed with Belize.

Liberty, being part of the Freedom class is not my favorite. I prefer the Oasis class as there are a lot more choices for healthier eating and things to do. The slides on the back of the ship on Liberty were fun, however, the large slide is not working.

The ship seemed very hot this time. Our room never really cooled down as in prior years, even others in the dining room and theater were complaining about it being hot. Given the benefit of doubt maybe it was just this one time. However, I like to sleep cool and our room never stayed that way.

Roatan, Honduras was beautiful. I have never seen water that beautiful before. We did the Jolly roger snorkeling and would highly recommend it to anyone. The guides are great. Be sure and do the one in the mid-morning as it is warmer.

Cozumel, we choose to do the Salsa, Salsa, Margarita cooking class and it was  a highlight. Fun, Fun, Fun

Another enjoyable cruise by Abby2five

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had sailed with Royal Caribbean before and petty much knew what to expect.  The ship is spotless and the crew is exceptional.  We don't gamble, so we would have lied to see more opportunities for other activities.  We go mainly for the entertainment, which was enjoyable, and the excursions.

Great time on Liberty of the Seas by mermanmark

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a wonderful time on our April 24th cruise to Roatan, Belize and Cozumel.   The staff on the ship were outstanding.  Had a good time snorkeling in Cozumel and seeing monkeys in Roatan.  The only thing that could be improved was the quality of the food on the Liberty of the Seas ship.

Fantastic vacation and beautiful ship: bad internet by davidstrey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise itself was fantastic. Not a thing I would change about the trip, the ports of call, or any aspect of the cruise. The crew was beyond fantastic my only regret was I didn't bring enough cash for extra tips for the staff. There was one aspect I was very disappointed with: the Internet service. We paid $20 per day for access but the connection was very slow if we could connect at all. We were bumped all the time, it was very frustrating, I don't think it's worth the money we paid for access. It reminded me of the old 28.8K days. Other than that we have already booked our next Royal Caribbean cruise for next year

Liberty of the Seas - Fantastic getaway ship by Cruiser376

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Liberty of the Seas staff & crew - top notch!  Our vacation began with walking into a very spacious interior stateroom!  We were not sure what to expect, but there was plenty of space to move around.  The stateroom was clean and our stateroom attendant and those on our deck were friendly and top notch.  We chose My Time Dining and we were absolutely overwhelmed with the staff in the main dining room.  Our waiter, Jesus, and asst waiter, Luckner were most enjoyable!  We enjoyed many of the activities on-board-the Flow Rider truly is as much fun as it sounds. The entertainment on board was great with many options.  We enjoyed the Schooner with JR Neal and his piano!  The shows were the best we have experienced from any cruise line!!  Great getaway on a clean ship, smiling & friendly crew, with Captain Rune- Liberty of the Seas!

Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas - 5 Star Experience by susancharba

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The weather was great, the ship was beautifully remodeled, the service was awesome and the food was magnificent.  We went to two different Specialty Restaurants (Sabor and Chops) and they were both excellent.  All in all, our cruise was very relaxing and exceeded all our expectations.

As you board staff makes you feel like family.  Stateroom attendant welcomes you and already knows your names and ask if you need anything to make you feel comfortable.
