Review summary

we enjoyed our time in the cruise, however witnessing the death of a young child was really heartbreaking. I beleive the design of the Kid pool section can be improved to avoid having a deep (1.7m) pool right next to kid pool and splash are.

I only talked with a few folks onboard about this incident and they did not believe the boy's parents were around when it happened. That is only what I heard and doesn't change the fact they lost their child. It is horrible no matter how it happened.

MrC nailed it!!! And kudos to you for doing the right thing as a responsible parent. I have witnessed on every cruise I have sailed the situation of unsupervised children (some as young as 5) having the run of the ship. I have also seen children as young as 9 being responsible for a sibling younger than them (blind leading the blind). People don't seem to understand that it is not the cruise lines responsibility to police their kids, that's the PARENTS job unless they are in a kids program on the ship.

Witnessing? Were you in that pool when the little boy was found? Something had to happen for that child to have been held underwater long enough to drown, or something had to have rendered him unconscious, like head trauma from hitting the side or bottom of the pool. My kid never goes in the pool without my being there, or one of the youth "counselors" overseeing a group. In any case, don't look for cruise lines to start paying lifeguards anytime soon. If they do implement a lifeguard policy aboard NCL, Carnival or Royal, you can expect to have to pay for it with some kind of "pool access safety fee." So, how did you like Cozumel?

this is so sad. the cruise lines really need to have life guards. i believe disney is the only cruise line that does.
