Review summary
After our 10 1/2 hr flight from L.A. we spent the nite in Amsterdam at the Movenpick. Nice place, only advice is, if you have any older people with you ask for a room WITHOUT a bathtub, the walk-in shower is much easier for the older crowd. The walk to the ship from the hotel is 2 min away which is great. Buy your wine and water before boarding since both of these are items you must purchase on board, the room comes with a cork bottle opener for that glass of wine on your balcony before dinner. You can bring your wine with you at dinner but will be charged $18 for them to open it for you. (Just a FYI) The ship is super clean and up to date. The food was great but like other reviews said maybe change it up a bit. Same food daily except in the dining room which they do change daily. Take the train ride to the top when you get to Flam, wow nice scenery with beautiful waterfalls and a nice spot at the top. Older crowd had trouble walking up dirt path to the restaurant and restrooms. Most had to stay down by the tracks. And they also had trouble getting in and out of train. The steps are steep even with help from a ramp and other passengers! The main language on the ship is English, basically all announcements are in English first then Dutch. We met many new friends that are from Holland etc and they know a little English (from watching tv) I did feel bad for some of their experiences because they couldn’t understand the “ comedian” at all. Since it was in English. Maybe have a comedian in Dutch on Monday nite and a English comedian on tues nite, this would accommodate everyone then. The weather was Awesome (sunny with no rain) our whole trip! Very unusual at this time of the year. Pack a umbrella just in case and a windbreaker is a must! Since it’s light till 11pm at nite the hottest part of the day is 3:00pm so pack sunscreen for any walking around the towns. At each port there are “hop on-hop off’’s” which is a great way to see the town. Our overall experience was outstanding!! This was one of our favorite cruise’s.. The staff was super friendly and very accommodating to all. I would highly recommended sailing on the Konningsdam!! Oh one last thing, there were very little kids under 18. So if you are thinking of bringing your children just know there isn’t a lot of kids to play with.Embarkation
