Dream Island Itinerary!

Sail Date: March 01, 2014

Room Type: Balcony

We had heard from many cruisers that Royal Caribbean is their favorite cruiseline so decided to book this particular cruise for that reason. It was fine\, though we didn't feel in general that it was better than the \"lower\" class Carnival cruises we've been on before; they each had a few things they did better than the other. We were shocked at the cost of the professional photos\, much more than other cruiselines. It would make sense to lower the prices; they'd sell many more instead of throwing them all away!

Pros: Easiest embarkation we've ever had\, great ports!

Cons: Big showroom entertainment was disappointing other than Sideshow Bert.

Recommends Jewel of the Seas? Yes!

Ship Quality
It was one of the easier ships to navigate that we have been on\, maybe in part due to the great location of our cabin.
Food and Dining
Tides meal were great\, not so impressed with the buffet food in the Windjammer though the ambience in the Windjammer was nicer than the buffet venues on other ships we've sailed on. We were on the My Time dining program. A wait team that stood out to us was Brazilio and Milan\, helpful and friendly. Coffee on the ship was a big disappointment\, not nearly as good as Carnival's. The half and half was thin\, seemed like whole milk instead.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our balcony cabin was actually smaller than the ones we've had on our Carnival cruises which surprised us\, but overall the room was fine. Nice balcony. It would be nice if RC adopted the mint on the pillows at night like other cruiselines.
Service and Staff
Malbert\, our cabin steward was great. We were impressed with the cruise director\, Carly...lots of energy and fun...does she ever sleep? Not impressed with the captain or his crew\, never saw him. On other cruises\, they often made a point of mingling with the passengers\, and were lighthearted and fun.
Singing and dancing were okay\, but the productions just seemed to be a mishmash of songs\, no real purpose\, theme or story in our opinion. We did enjoy the Sideshow Bert show! And we liked the live Caribbean style band on the pool deck. Other cruiselines have had a free liquor sampling night early in the cruise which was fun and allowed us to try before buying on the ship. RC should consider doing this. They would sell more!
