Family fun

Sail Date: April 01, 2012

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Suite

My family and I enjoyed sharing a 2 bedroom suite. We loved the pools, swimming with the dolphins in Mexico, eating at Chops, sitting on our balcony, etc. The major draw back was the lack of activities for our one year old (who was not allowed in the pool or on the slide).

Pros: pools, spa, food, location, suite, activities for older kids, swimming with dolphins

Cons: lack of activities for babies (especially the pool), added expenses such as photographs and tips, water slide only for children of a narrow age range (no babies or adults)

Recommends Jewel of the Seas? Yes!

Children's Programs
On the website there were a lot of wonderful options for babies. On board we found that no one attended the Fisher Price activities (which would have been a nice time for our 1 year old to socialize with peers). The staff person was not playful or kind to our baby. He was frustrated by our baby's limitations and pressed him to play "correctly." It felt like he was more interested in selling us the toys than entertaining our baby. Also diapered babies are not welcome in the pools or on the water slide, which was something I was excited for him to experience.
In addition, our 8 year old found the 6-8 year old group "boring." She did make some friends her age and enjoyed the face painting, however I wonder if the age difference is too big.
Ship Quality
Impressive glass elevators and lobby, immaculate, lots of stairs if you don't want to wait for the elevators, intuitive lay out.
Food and Dining
The food exceeded my expectations, especially in Chops
Cabin / Stateroom
Great amount of space, excellent stateroom attendant, beautiful view from the balcony, & impressive bathrooms. However, the decor was not wonderful.
Service and Staff
Most of the staff were exceptional. On occasion we ran into a few grumpy or uninformed staff particularly those working with children. The good definitely outweighed the bad.
Great pools, mini golf, climbing wall, shuffle board, board games, kids toys, etc.
