Relaxing Cruise

Sail Date: December 05, 2011

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Unlike most cruise ships they scan and hold bags for bottles, cans, irons and other items - the worst part is you then have to carry your bag to your room which is a painful, I really hated that they stopped an old lady for knitting neddles, they let her keep them but then she had to carry a heavy bag to heaven knows where which was a bit crual. Most were pulled for beer and wine, you get what they take back but you will want to sneak it in a smaller bag and not a heavy monster like I had to lug. Also they let you keep soft drinks but they still pull the bag.

Other then that it is a really great cruise, everything is well done you get service when you want it and they leave you alone when you want that also. Food is better than most but avoid the generic steak on the menu nightly (the server did warn us, we should have listened), it is poor quality (but all the other meat was very good cuts). Overall food and dining was top notch.

The Tulum Ruins and Beach tour is a bargain and very well done, they even provide umbrellas which help with both the rain showers and the sun.

Costa Maya is still really beat up from the hurricane several years ago, not much for fish and even the coral looks beat up badly. Glass Bottom boat mostly saw dead coral and rocks.

Pros: Excelent Service, food, Tulum & Beach excursion, room & balcony, excelent overall.

Cons: bagage police, Costa Masa glass bottom boat tour waste of a few hours.

Recommends Jewel of the Seas? Yes!

Ship Quality
Fairly new ship and everything is top notch
Food and Dining
Except for that one steak, it was top notch. We had early dining and the staff was one of the best we have ever had and the food on ship was great. Room service every morning was excellent also, we had an early tour one day and noted it on the card and it showed up nice and early.
Entertainment
Shows were entertaining but we do not do a lot of the activities, we tend to like to just relax when on the ship and do the dinner and a show in the evening
Cabin / Stateroom
Balcony Room was awesome, you sort of had three areas with a curtain so it was easy to hang there.
