Royal Caribbean Cruise - Top of the Line

Sail Date: December 10, 2011

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

The ship was perfect size and great atmosphere for couples cruise. It was a great first-cruise experience. The ship was very clean, the staff was overly hospitable, everything was "ship-shape."

Pros: Outstanding service by cruise staff, lots to do/enjoy on ship, food & drink quality and availability, ports of call were fantastic with lots of exciting excursions

Cons: Alcoholic drinks and some activities are a bit pricey

Recommends Jewel of the Seas? Yes!

Food and Dining
There was always fresh food available at different venues including a buffet or sit-down service options. The food was somewhat bland but still relatively good (it wasn't bad by any means). We did not dine at the specialty dining restaurants but I can't help but wonder if the quality of the steaks and seafood might not be a tad better there.
Children's Programs
There were very few kids on this cruise and we left ours at home so we were not too attentive to kids' activities. However, I would venture to say that if we brough our kids, we would consider a different ship, perhaps larger ship, with more pools and bigger kids' activity areas. But I think most kids would find enough to do on Jewel of the Seas cruise of 5 days or less.
Service and Staff
The ship staff was incredibly friendly and helpful at all times. They were overly attentive to your needs and tried to anticipate as much as possible. If they did not have an answer, they took you to someone who could help - they stop what they are doing to help and they always make you their #1 priority.
There are lots of activities and they are all good and appeal to a wide-variety of people. Whether its pool activities, sports, work outs, theater, movies, gambling, games, etc. - they have something for everyone every day.
Ship Quality
The ship quality was excellent - size of ship was good with plenty of different areas throughout to relax or partake in activities. The ship was very clean, the decor was very nice like any 5-star hotel.
Cabin / Stateroom
We spent very little time in the room - basically shower and sleep 8 hours. The rest of the time was spent out and about enjoying the activities on the ship, eating, or off the ship in the ports. A large room is not a necessity, neither is a window. Note: mid-ship and higher up (floors 8-10) seems to be best room options for being centrally located and least "sea-rocking."
