I was on the Serenade of the Seas 2 years ago and had a wonderful trip to the southern caribbean. For our honeymoon we decided to try the Jewel. The ship was just as beautiful as Serenade, friendly service, but the food was poor and we were disappointed with the ports and shore excursions. If we could do it over again, we would have considered one of the larger ships or a resort vacation. This was my husband's first cruise and will now be reluctant to go on a second cruise. We spoke with several others on the ship and they too expressed their disappointment with the food and felt the service was not up to par.

Food and Dining

The food quality was very poor. The best food I experienced on Royal Caribbean was on a cruise I took 6 years ago and the quality has gone downhill since. The Chops Grille was by far the best. The waiter was wonderful and the decor was beautiful. Our food was undercooked at Portifino and the waiter was not helpful nor around when we needed him. The chocolate crepes at the Solarium Cafe were pretty good. If you like quantity than the Jewel is for you, but not quality.

Good variety of entertainment. Always something to do. The Jewel's singers and dancers were excellent!

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff was friendly; had a smile on their faces a majority of the time. Our assistant waiter expressed her dissatisfaction with the ship's management and crew and was looking to transfer.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was beautiful and impressive with the exception of numerous water stains on the carpet in public areas and an occasional foul/salty odor in many locations including the dining room.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We were happy with our stateroom, with the exception that the hallway leading up to it had a foul odor.

Pros: Ship layout, Appearance

Cons: Food

Recommends Jewel of the Seas? No.
