Scandinavian Cruise

Sail Date: June 07, 2006

Reviewed: 10 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Balcony

This ship had a wide variety of activites, and the children's program was outstanding! This cruise had the best art programs I have ever attended; every project we did was great!
The ship itself was showing a little wear for only being 2 years old. We were also held up for 40 min on an excursion because some people had not shown up. Clearly, the mandate to be on time is all fluff. As a result our tours through 2 museums were very rushed. Our guide informed us Royal Caribbean told her she could not leave without the entire group.

Pros: Estonia! It is the jewel of Scandinavia. People actually smile there!

Cons: Our Russiant tour guide spewing commie propaganda for the ENTIRE tour

Service and Staff
Ship Quality
The carpets were worn.
Food and Dining
The food was nothing to write home about, it was actually rather forgettable. The service, however, was impeccable.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our room had a bunk option which cam out of the ceiling, very handy with our young daughter. I felt they utilized every inch of space they could. I had no problem storing the clothing needed, 2 weeks worth, for 3 people.
Entertainment
One does grow weary of show tunes and numbers; particulary if the show has already been veiwed in its entirety.
Children's Programs
We had to drag our daughter out of Adventure Ocean kicking and screaming. The programs were so good, our daughter would immediately behave if she thought she would not be able to go that day.
Helsinki, Finland
Excursions aren't necessary in this port. This city is very accessable, the map they give you on the boat, however, is not very good. Get a real one in town. if you eat in the local market, eat under the tents like the locals. The seagulls are VERY aggressive.
Don't Miss: The local market.
Stockholm, Sweden
I was dissapointed by all the "gang" style graffiti. If you see nothing else, see the Vasa, even my husband, who hates musuems, said this was his favorite from all of our travels. If you shop in the old town, get a shuttle pass. I work out everyday and it was a hike.
Don't Miss: The Vasa
St. Petersburg, Russian Federation
The cathedral tour and the tour of the Hermitage are not to be missed. Don't bother with a walking tour beacuse all the sites are covered by the other tours, plus you don't have to risk your life walking on the sidewalks.(otherwise known as another lane of car traffic.) The local tour was a waste of time. It's just a tour of a really old subway, and a Russian version of a supermarket.
Don't Miss: The cathedrals and the Hermitage
Oslo, Norway
The Viking History Musuem is a must see. It is very informative, and the ships, and what the Vikings accomplished in them, are amazing.
Don't Miss: Viking History musuem
Tallinn, Estonia
The old town is easily accessed from a shuttle bus from the boat, no excursions necessary. I have never felt more welcomed to a town. This was the only place where we visited were the people smiled readily, and seemed happy to see us. The prices were reasonable, and the food was great!
Don't Miss: Shopping in the old town
Copenhagen, Denmark
Tivoli Gardens are nice, especially if you have children. Don't bother with the excursion from the boat; you just walk through the park. Take a cab and enjoy it. The park is not as massive as Disney, but it's not as crowded either. The city is easily accessed by bike, and they have a public bike system, just look for the red racks!
Don't Miss: Tivoli Gardens,Rosenborg Castle, and The Little Mermaid
