Review summary

Overall solid experience, happy with food and ship. My only other cruise was on Disney wonder and this cruise was missing all the small details that made Disney special. I don’t know if this is typical RC, issue specific to Indy or lots of bad luck for us.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Very smooth, fast, no concerns and staff were very friendly. The reason for 4 was that the sail away party was as lame as any “party” could ever be. Compared to experience on Disney not close. Not sure if this should be under embark or not.

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
This is a loaded question. The food was better than I expected in the main dining room. Good variety very good quality. I would say order two entrees if you like to eat as most of the portions where small. Lead waiter was great but the assistant waiter made dining room experience horrible until we finally needed to ask them to keep him away from us. He could not take a drink order never brought anything we asked for (ketchup arrived for dessert) when he did bring drinks he kept charging us even though we had drink package (needed to spend time at guest services to remove charges). Went to chops asking to see lunch menu and two different people said it was same as dinner. I didn’t think this seemed correct but they should know so we make res for lunch, get kid into nursery show up and find very small menu with nothing we wanted. Explained the issue asked to pay dinner price for other food they wouldn’t do we left. Most bartenders were very nice but the first one we encountered was so rude and so bad it left a bad taste and she was rude all cruise long. She was at the bar near the pool all week and seemed to hate life. Snacks at cafe were very good and coffee was great. Pizza at sorrentos was ok. Better than I expected from reviews but not great. Johnny rockets was very good but I was not expecting to pay extra for shakes. You are already paying extra for burger and fries and then the reason you go (shakes) are additional. Windjammer was always really busy but food was good. We had drink package and had read the fresh squeezed juice was a nice perk for that and we were told several times they didn’t have fresh squeezed juice yet.... they never seemed to have it. With the drink package, the cups and info was supposed to be waiting in the room but they weren’t and we had to go to customer service to gets them. Overall the food was very good but little details were often missing.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Always fun things happening. Only thing I would have enjoyed would be to offer more (or anything) during port times. I know the shops have to be closed in port but some activities could be offered. The shows were fine but lower quality than Disney in my opinion.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Didn’t hit a lot of shows but the piano comedy at schooner bar was amazing!!!

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Staff were great daughter had fun but compared to Disney the kids area was lacking. My daughter did not notice and seemed to have fun most of the time and that is what matters. It was annoying that they had split hours in kids area during some times that ideally the kids would be in there.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
As I mentioned previously most staff were good. I can think of 4-5 real poor experiences with staff many good and some great. Again I know Disney is more expensive but for comparison we could only think of one staff that wasn’t exceptional. This was still good overall but not close when comparing. I was unsure where to put some of the small details that made for a less than ideal experience but I suppose many of them belong under service. Small things like not having our cups in the room, pre purchased arcade credits weren’t on card (took about 40 minutes to rectify), no crib in the room when all documents clearly stated we needed (needed nap when we got in room but no crib) had to visit customer service 3 times to fix incorrect charges and even then they never let me know that my room had charges. Tried to get off ship early to catch flight and they refused to let us leave. Turns out somehow my 1 and 6 year old weren’t attached to our account. Guest services didn’t mention this at 630 that morning when I was there so rather than leaving ship I spent another 40 minutes so they could charge the credit card they were supposed to be charging the entire time. Overall I have tried to be fare as the ship and most people were great but small details left us wondering if the Disney experience might just be worth the additional cost.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Overall I loved the Indy. We had a balcony on deck 6 and experienced no noise or issues. This was one sailing before dry dock and personally I did not notice many things that struck me as old. I was pleasantly surprised as some reviews made me think it would feel old and dirty. Loved deck 6 because we were a quick flight of stairs from promenade and didn’t need elevators during busy times. I haven’t ever done anything bigger but this ship had plenty to stay busy

Cabin / Stateroom

Very nice cabin with balcony. It was not a concern for us but one consideration is that this room was right before the bump out toward the aft of he ship. Only reason this could be a concern is that the cabins on the bump out can sorta see onto your balcony. If you are really hoping for total privacy may not be best choice. Bed was comfortable on one side and awful on the other. I think they are able to be two twins but they were clearly different mattresses. We have two kids so when couch was pulled out the only place to put the crib was by patio door so it was tight. After first night we just had daughter sleep on the couch without making it a bed and it was better.

Ship tip

We loved deck 6 being only one floor from promenade, check your charges we found several erroneous charges throughout. Hit the comedic pano he was great! Ask bartenders for secret drink 1-2-3 whatever. When allowed to be creative they made great alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Even with the drink package they will charge your room for water you get when leaving the ship for port days. This seemed to be a silly charge. Also I saw many people fighting towel charges so be careful when checking in/out your towels.

Disembarkation

To be fair this could/should be a 5. We went during our time and it was going smooth until they wouldn’t let us off due to a balance. As noted earlier I was at customer service an hour before disembark to fix everything and they still didn’t make it correct. The process for disembark was smooth until other errors made it a mess.
