More Than You'd Ever Expect

Sail Date: November 01, 2006

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

We live in North Mississippi.... not a haven for easy travel to exotic locations. We do have Elvis though! So at the last minute, hubby and I decided to do something for our anniversary. We had dicovered earlier in 2006 that we loved cruising after taking our first 4 day on Disney's Wonder.

I started searching for getaways... and I came across a wonderful last minute deal, Carnival, from Mobile, Alabama aboard the Holiday. (5 hour drive)... Whoa, some of you may be thinking.. that's a big step down...from DCL to one of Carnivals smallest and oldest ships, that thought never crossed our minds.. we go into everything expecting good times.

Our CCL cruise rep could not have been more attentive, great suggestions, worked hard.. super friendly and nice.. As Mobile, Alabama may not be in one of your top 10 travel destinations, you are missing out. Before we even made it onto the ship, we already met several people.. that were so fun and nice.. all ages.. and the majority of them, like us had driven there.. easy parking, easy embarkment, great terminal staff..

This is how the whole cruise went.. it was so laid back, and just what we needed.. we met some excellent couples (it was the first time we'd ever left our daughter, age 6) in their 20's on up into their 60's.. we're 43/56.... so much in common.. great conversations and lots of laughter.. the service from our steward, to the CD, to the dining room staff.. excellent.

Our cruise was worth 5 times what we paid... the ports excellent, the days at sea.. we loved it. This little carnival ship, don't underestimate her value.. she's a grand ole gal.. and often ranks #1 and #2 in the fleet.. cause everyone on the Holiday, Staff, Crew and Passengers are just that.. ON HOLIDAY!

We'll be cruising that sweet little jewel many times in the upcoming years.

Pros: The Atmosphere

Cons: cruise had to end

Recommends Holiday (RETIRED)? Yes!

Ship Quality
the ship was immaculate.. the maintenance crew was constantly working on her upkeep.. sure.. everynow and then you may see where the carpet in the corridors is a bit worn.. but, it's so clean.. and kinda like visiting a favorite relatives house... oh the stories that great ship could tell.. lovingly cared for.
Food and Dining
great room service
charming decor in the dining room food really good above par
lots of great options on deck
Cabin / Stateroom
the room wonderful.. the bed and bedding omg.. the best we've ever had on any trip anywhere.. their bedding and mattresses are superb, because she is older.. the staterooms are a wonderful size and well appointed...
Service and Staff
read the main part of my review.. #1 and #2 in the fleet.. i've not seen a better crew anywhere..everpresent, everhelpful, eversmiling.
we didn't do a ton of things.. but the poolside games were a riot.. there is a casino that is fun too.
