A Big Disappointment

Sail Date: December 23, 2006

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

The embarkation process moved along fairly quickly. When we reached our room, we had a porthole instead of the window we thought we had but not much to see anyway.

Since we are not too fond of eating with a group of strangers, we headed for the buffet for our first dinner. What a disappointment! A very small cafeteria choice! No wide array of choices like our previous cruises. And it never got any better.

Our first stop was SUPPOSED to have been Costa Maya but an emergency medical evcauation forced us to go straight to Cozumel. Because of this, we had to rearrange our tours which cut down on our choices, especially since we don't snorkel.

The tour to Tulum to see the ruins was great. The tour guide was very informative and helpful. The downside was that it took the ship over an hour to get us tendered and off to our tour.

Sailing back to Mobile was torture for some people as the ship tossed and seemed to jump the waves for about 24 hours. The debarkation process was slow. We decided to walk off with our luggage and while waiting in line, we saw people who had walked off with us retrieving their luggage from the luggage holding area which really ticked us off.

Pros: The shows

Cons: the food

Ship Quality
As it was Christmas, I would have thought that there would have been more decorations (non in the buffet area) The layout of the ship was such that it was hard to find anything. We had to go down a floor and then up a floor to get to some areas. Since the ship was newly refurbished, it was clean and the cabin staff kept the rooms very nice.
Food and Dining
the quality of the food was mediocre at best> the buffet ambience was non_existent__plastic flowers at the serving line and no christmas decorations> on occasion, when returning from land, the buffet would be closed.
Cabin / Stateroom
Size of the stateroom was actually better than other ships we've been on. I suppose this is because it is an older ship. The overall comfort was good.
Service and Staff
Most of the staff looked as if they had rather be somewhere else.
We loved the shows. Very professional productions.
Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
We never got to visit this scheduled port because of a medical evcauation. We were, however, reimbursed $25 whole dollars. So, we can't comment on this port!!!!!!!
Cozumel, Mexico
Didn't see anything that was outstanding to me...more of the same t-shirts and silver jewelry. We did, however, take the Mayan ruins tour to Tulum which was outstanding
