Review summary

The ship and crew were fantastic but they had over 6000 passengers so the ship was overbooked. Because of this it meant there were a lot more rude people with no common sense. Almost every time we used the elevator we had 15 people where it was meant for 10, not fun especially when you still have the 300+ lb. guys wearing a speedo. Our 10 yr. old grandson was using the Kleenex's and found a bag of pot in the box which we took to security, not good for a 10 yr old to find. They took precautions and tried to make people wash before meals but some still walked past the wash stations. I still got sick even taking precautions myself, I was sick to my stomach and chills for a night then 102 fever for 2 days and still sick a week after the trip. Shopping was great but Haiti sellers were way overboard aggressive, twice I had salesmen take money and say they had to get change and take off with my money and when they leave your surrounded by 10 other guys trying to sell and distract you. One of our daughters got married on the cruise but our other daughter who had her son with her was stalked by a guy almost from the beginning. He called our room many times showed up at our door and was visible everyplace we went. Even after several threats of bodily harm he never stopped, we did tell security but they wouldn't do anything unless he touched her. Very creepy. There was a designated smoking area but people still smoked on they're balconies even though they were warned not to at the safety meeting, while in port all you could smell was cigarettes if you sat on your balcony. I think if they didn't try to overbook by over a 1000 passengers it would have let passengers enjoy the ship and staff more and create more customer loyalty.

I'm disabled and would hope they will consider recliners in some rooms, for people like me that sleep in a hospital bed a recliner can work as a replacement.

Ship tip

Try to book in the off season so hopefully the ship is not full.

frank212 is right. 5479 is based on two people per stateroom. the max capacity is 6780.

overbooked?

I think they measure full capacity of the ship by how many passengers they can fit in the life boats incase of an emergency. Not by the double occupancy per room number...but of course I could be mistaken

The captain told us in a theater setting that it was overbooked. He was answering several questions about the ship and the number of passengers was one of them. Capacity is 5479 and we had over 6500. This came directly from the captain.

Cruise ships cannot overbook. That would mean they have more passengers than they have beds. I agree that a 300 lb. guy in a speedo is not attractive, but I have seen plenty of 300 lb. women in bikinis -- not attractive, either. As for shopping in Labadee, avoid the vendors up on the hill, and stick to the ones in the large building. They are not aggressive, and their goods are a much better quality .
