One word- Awful . We will never cruise on this ship ever again.

Food and Dining

Izumi was our choice because my husband got food poisoning from the beef carpaccio in the great gatsby dining room. The doctor treated it as the Noro Virus and he was isolated in the room.

Cabin / Stateroom

We had a stateroom with no windows. When we arrived we asked for an upgrade and they said the ship was full. The whole time we were there they were working in the walls banging and welding. The last 2 days we were on the ship they moved us to room 2010 with windows and upon inspection there were someone else’s socks and underwear in the top drawer along with a book beside the safe and 2 dirty cups in the left side mirror vanity cabinet. We never unpacked our bags and that was a huge inconvenience being moved for the last 2 days. Then we still heard work being done in the walls again. We were so over complaining about these things that we just gave up. I literally just broke down. This was our honeymoon. A one time only experience and it turned into a disaster. Everyone was coughing on the ship and we both ended up on the 4th day getting a viral bronchitis as well. We are still fighting it as well and doctor said it can take a month until it clears up. We even asked the front desk to compensate us for the inconvenience and terrible time we were having and during isolation for us to have a free day of internet and that was denied. We even asked for us to have the main dining to izumis or chips grille since my husband got sick from the food in Great Gatsby and that was denied. So we were stuck with $117.00 roaming charges for our internet on our phone and $100’s of dollars at our own expense of eating at Izumi and chops Grille. They offered us a 20% discount for a future cruise for the isolation and then a 30% off future cruise. This was our honeymoon and we wanted reconciliation at the time we were there. We didn’t want any future discounts especially to cruise with the Grandeur of the Seas.
Ship tip
I wouldn’t ever go on there again. Too many other stories from others who told us 90% of the time there is an illness and also many times you miss ports.
This was a huge disappointment. We made excursion plans 2 times that was canceled and then they announced we weren’t able to port because of weather. Plus the day before we had an emergency and had to drop off someone in st Lucia. Also we asked about Port reimbursement and never heard anything back.
We couldn’t wait to get off the ship! I called Royal Caribbean as soon as I got in the car to let them know of our experience. Still waiting on a response.
Will ne on board in two weeks. We have suffered thru two colds this season, wife had to be on antibiotics and inhaler , its going around, can not blame rcl. Had a gi also, could not tie it to any food. I have had no construction related problems on rcl but will surely complain if the banging is still going on, on the same area of ship except 3rd floor.
I agree 100% with you! My wife and I were on the ship for eight nights starting January 23 in room 2567 we heard all the banging noise also. when I complained to guest services they said maintenance was not working that doesn’t explain all the hammering for three days. I also came down with a viral bronchitis. Out of 13 cruisers this was our first Royal Caribbean. Its very unfortunate we did not have a good experience on it. Sad to hear that you also did not have a good experience. The rooms near our room all smelt like raw sewage also.
Sorry you didn’t enjoy your cruise. We love the Grandeur! We’ve been on more than a dozen cruises and have never gotten sick. Maybe cruising isn’t for you. Will be back on Grandeur next month and can’t wait!
It sounds like you expected to get an upgrade and didn't and that make you have a sour attitude the entire trip which in turn made the trip a bad experience.
I'm sorry your husband got sick.
But as for the rest - attitude is everything! If I were on my honeymoon with the one I love, we would have made any situation, no matter how bad, a good one just by enjoying each other and laughing together.
Be a glass half full kind of person.
Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. It’s interesting that there are 3 other reviews of the same sailing with none of the same issues and they seemed to enjoy it. Nothing is ever perfect, but attitude seems to be the difference in whether people just deal with it and enjoy their vacation or let it ruin the entire trip.
Sorry for your unfortunate situation. We have been on many cruises any never had “illnesses”. They don’t tend to give money back on current cruises but want you to come back so offer on future. Issues can occur. These cruise lines deal with hundreds of thousands of people a year.
