An okay" cruise"

Sail Date: August 01, 2013

Reviewed: 3 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/young children

Room Type: Oceanview

We recently sailed on the Grandeur of the Seas. We have sailed on many cruises with our children and were disappointed with the food in the dining room. There were a couple of nights where the food was quite enjoyable\, but several nights we left very disappointed and went to the sandwich counter on the Pool Deck to look for something to eat. In particular\, the last night we chose the salmon. It was so overcooked we sent it back twice. It was tough and rubbery.

We were also disappointed with the \"excursion\" at Cococay. We paid for our two children (ages 8 and 10) to have access to the 40 ft slide and the Aquapark. The price for the aquapark alone was $20/pn. If we had waited until we got off of the ship and went to the park\, they were only charging $15/pn. It is all owned by Royal Caribbean! First rip-off....then when the kids were at the aqua park\, they were told that they could only play on the two water trampolines and one very large inflatable that they were not strong enough to climb up. Second rip-off....same excursion. This left a very poor taste in our mouth for RCI.

This was our first cruise with RCI\, and likely our last.

Pros: Dining room and cabin staff were great

Cons: The food on the ship and the Cococay experience were disappointing

Recommends Grandeur of the Seas? No.

Ship Quality
ship was recently renovated so overall condition was good.
Food and Dining
disappointed in the Dining Room. Also\, would not recommend paying for the Italian Restaurant. It was awful.
Cabin / Stateroom
it was clean and had all the amenities needed\, however was much smaller than other cruises we had been on with similar cabins.
Service and Staff
Children's Programs
too many kids in one room. the staff was great and did their best\, but it was just way too crowded. the staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of children. I was just glad our children were older. I would have been concerned if they were younger with that number of children.
