4 Night Western Caribbean (Tampa Roundtrip) Sail Date: February 28, 2008 Ship: Grandeur of the Seas Cabin Type: Inside Traveled As: Couple Reviewed: 10 years ago
We couldn't believe how so many people aboard a ship could be handled so efficiently, from getting on board, luggage to rooms, dining room location and service, and all the on board activities and places to visit an roam. The staff were all proficient, accommodating and friendly, and all very interesting considering they all came from so many different countries. It was great that there were so many and varied areas for all the ship guests to disperse to, to find their own particular area of entertainment and interest! The 4 piece band that played evenings on the 4th deck (boys from Poland) were exceptional and music very appropriate for age of guests. We were also very impressed how so many people disembarked the ship and could actually find their luggage immediately. Unfortunately when our luggage was originally delivered to our stateroom, I had my luggage carrier (on wheels), missing, but if that is the only mishap it's pretty amazing on a ship that size.
Food and Dining

Overall the dinners were truly great, however some folks at our table had the steak, and they found it over done, and chewy. Perhaps a different cut of beef should be considered. Not being great steak fans, my husband and I enjoyed the many other choices provided. Presentation was lovely for each course. Dining was a very pleasant experience!

As I mentioned previously, the band in the 4th deck lounge on alternate nights (4 Polish fellows) was just our speed and we enjoyed singing along to tunes we could identify with. I did feel the entertainment in the Palladium theatre each night, and especially the first night to be a little too ambitious and a bit 'over the top' for our liking, but they are talented young men and women. Just too busy! Enjoyed the second evening better. Activity directors were bubbly and always full of enthusiasm for what they were doing. Always lots to do, so no one on board should have had a dull moment unless they just wanted to sprawl by the pool and enjoy the Florida sunshine and relax. And, even that was a welcome treat from where we come from in the cold north. Disappointed in the photography department's sales pitch. After taking the photos you had many choices (which was great), perhaps offering a package of so many photos for a better price would be better than wasting other good photos.

Our waiter at dinner each evening was super. He was friendly, funny and very outgoing. We shared lots of laughs and he was most accommodating. All the cruise ship personnel were helpful when necessary and always friendly. Nice to see captain about the ship from time to time.

All public areas were well maintained and lovely. After the first day when we got acquainted with the ship and where specific areas were, it was easy to get about, and meet again if we were doing separate things.
Cabin / Stateroom

Amazing just how much room there was in a small inside cabin. We chose this as friends of ours who had previously been on a cruise told us you were not in your room very often other than to sleep, and how right they were. We might be inclined to choose an outside cabin on a future cruise depending on where the ship is sailing. Attendant very friendly, courteous and capable.
We enjoyed an authentic Mexican lunch at a place called La Mission, about 3 blocks down from the ship's terminal. There was also another location, but much larger in the downtown area. We felt that the better way to appreciate Cozumel would be to get down on a beach and feel the lovely looking sand beneath our feet. All areas we saw were private pretty well, and all the hastle of the shopkeepers not so appealing. We did enjoy the Glass Bottom Boat tour, however with the reefs being destroyed pretty well during last year's storms, the information provided for this tour should have mentioned this as there really wasn't a lot to see under water in regards to the corals and larger fish. The many small ones were lovely though. As the boat docked a little late, we were hard pressed to enjoy our second excursion. The activities personnel were pleasant regarding this and did refund our money for this. It was a very hot day, and lovely for walking around and enjoying the weather.
Don't Miss: ??????????
Taking the tour here was probably the best thing to do to capture some of the island flavor. We enjoyed a pleasant lunch downtown at a cuban restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of Duval Street. The history of the place was interesting, as were the houses, but having been there once was plenty for us.
Don't Miss: Don't really know as we didn't feel it was worth a second trip at any time in our lives.
Pros: All the choices for dining, entertainment and shore excursions
