It is not Celebrity by gormanwork

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

I had several issues on this cruise. First, the Happy Hours are at 3- 4, way to early: the second one is 10-11 but in a bar that chronically is noisy but empty at this time. The smoking in the casino is annoying. In order to pass through to the forward elevators on this deck, you should don a gas mask as the smoke is that bad. The smoke also drifts out to the Piazza a common area where entertainment is held. The buffet service area on the Golden Princess is extremely crowded and congested with very poor traffic flow. The food was average with the exception of the specialty restaurants. Why not, they charge you extra to get the really good stuff!! The entertainment on the stage was mediocre at best. Some of the other groups were good but they had one lady signer who was chronically off key. I have frequently used Celebrity but friends encouraged us to take Princess.  In all fairness though, most of the staff tried very hard and were courteous and friendly.

Poor quality everything by ruskamsf

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

Arrived to a full parking lot with nobody knowing where we should park or being able to guide us. After talking to many people who gave us wrong instructions, finally somebody gave us good ones. This was a theme of the trip. They apparently only tell one crew member the correct instructions, so you should expect to get a few incorrect answers for anything you ask on the ship. The food quality was poor (most looked/tasted frozen and microwaved) and the premium restaurants were booked immediately after launch so we couldn't even try them. Our shower leaked so the bathroom floor was covered in water. Bartender service was slower than an actual bar.

relaxing fun getaway by schmattmo

We always enjoy this quick getaway.  A little spa, a little gambling, lovely dinners together, helpful and friendly staff and a balcony stateroom make for a memorable trip.  Highly recommended.

Excellent Vacation by elizabethjanice

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

The cruise was a relaxing, incredible getaway.  Although I have never been on a cruise before, I annually spend a vacation at the Broadmoore Hotel in Colorado Springs, CO--it is a 5-star hotel for good reasons.  The Princess reminded me of the Broadmoore due to the incredible service!  I loved having so many employees from a variety of countries, as well as the vast amount of employees courteous and eager to serve me at any time!  Although there were many lines to wait in for opportunities such as dinner or coffee, once I was settled in a location, I felt pampered and taken care of.  My room service, Rafael, especially catered to all of my needs before I even needed to ask, and made me feel like the only room he was in charge of, with his intentional cleaning and amiable attitude, asking about my day and activities every time I saw him.  The employees at the Fitness Center were also incredibly friendly, and constantly aware of how to improve my experience.  The waiter at Crown Grill from Macedonia was excellent at his service, as well as the employees at International Cafe, although they were painfully slow at making drinks.

Both staff, menu planning and lay out of the Golden Princess was disappointing. by PeggyCheong

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

1) Check in with my handicap father went well and they swiped our credit card at registration. The next day we received a notice saying there was no payment information we must see customer service right away if not we would not be able to incur charges. Naturally we dealt with long line.

2) Horizon Court is just way too small to handle the 2600+ passengers on Golden Princess. The wait on first and last meal were way over half an hour and it was really difficult to find tables.

3) The first night at the dining room was complete chaos. Only 1 person had the job to deal with the many assignment issues of 300+ passengers. We waited with my handicap father for over half an hour from our dining time to be finally assigned to the Anytime dining floor. For the first time in my cruise history, I called every morning to reserve a table at the Anytime dining floor to avoid the chaos again. Even though they took down our name and room number, no one ever called back to follow up on our table assignment issue. Most importantly, you get a different wait staff each day, and since they may have a lower chance of receiving gratuity, you received often below standard service. Nadia and Nick were the 2 exceptions. Good service and attitude.

4) The Golden Princess 3 Night Cruise presented one of the worst menu I have seen. The main course menu had poor options. The only highlight was the wonderful dessert menu. We only wish they offered more sugar free items (only 1 night out of 3). We ate a lot of shrimp cocktail since as seafood lovers there were hardly any other good options to be found. Their beef options were really inadequate, which was really disappointing for my sister who was traveling with us.

5) At the safety drill, one of the staff was downright rude in ordering my disable father to be moved to the most interior of the casino in the handicap area, after we had sat there for half an hour as instructed by other staff. It was almost a punishment for being early and she was totally clueless as to had difficult to move a disable person in a crowd.

6) On the evening before returning, I placed a breakfast room service order outside the door at around 7 pm. When it wasn't picked up by 9:30, I called the Purser's office. They told me on turnaround day there was no room service. Food will not be delivered. On day of departure, I rushed to pick up a few breakfast items. As soon as I came back, room service was delivered. House staff told me there is room service. "Inadequately trained staff again."

7) Before arrival at Ensenada, I called the Purser's office and asked if there were shuttles available at a fee from the Pier to go to center of town. The staff answered, there was none. My sister and I took a chance and disembarked. Sure enough, there were plenty of shuttles.

8) On the 2nd day, I called the housing staff at least 4 times. They did not return any of our calls. I had to write a large note requesting they remove the trash.

Lesson learned. Staff were not trained thoroughly and they lacked knowledge of just about everything. I was a Princess Cruise fan before and my sister a Royal Caribbean fan. After this cruise, I have to agree with her.

Great experience!!!! by LeTonya

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

This was my second cruise.  I went on a 4 day cruise over 20 years ago to Mexico on Royal Caribbean.  At the time I worked for Princess Cruises at the corporate office. To now actually take a cruise on PC was a very nice experience.  The shows were spectacular!  I went to a magic show, and all can say is that it was phenomenal!!!!  I got lots of rest, the staff was awesome!  They were all very pleasant and helpful!  I only have one little dislike.  We were upgraded (no complaints for this), however, were printed out the boarding passes 30 days prior as requested.  So, must have gotten an upgrade during the 30 days.  When we boarded we were told.  The problem is, that since our boarding passes reflected the original stateroom, our bags were not sent to our room.  We were told that they had until 6 pm to send them to our room.  My boyfriend and I decided to check on our bags around 5pm.  On our way to the room we saw bags in guest services, standing on the wall without any tags or destination to send them.  Apparently, they were removed but no one place stateroom tags so that they were delivered to us.  I just felt as though there was no follow thru and if we had not seen our bags how much longer would we have had to wait?  No one asked us to confirm our bags.  My boyfriend had purchased a very expensing birthday gift that was left in the bag.  (This would have been his fault if stolen) but, someone should have checked to make sure a new tag was place for easy delivery of our bags.  This is our only complaint.  Other than that we had a very nice time.

Thank you Princess Cruises,

Princess doesn't shine by Retiredcruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

Princess advertises "Any Time Dining". On our recent cruise, this meant if you didn't get in line at least 1/2 hour to 45 minutes before the dining room door opened, you were left standing in line for 2 hours. Although they had 3 dining rooms, only one was offered for the 5:30 dining room option of "Any Time Dining". With over 2,000 guests on board, what a frustrating experience. Even after getting seated, we were quite disappointed in the quality of meals. We have had a much better dining experience on Holland America and Norwegian.

Please know this does not reflect our opinion or experience with Cruise 411. With Cruise 411, we have always had great service!

Getaway Extrordinare by rlukas143

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

For an unforgettable get away- do  this ! Sign up for the DRINKS packages- Alcohol or not- it will be worth your while. The food was  fantastic and plentiful, some 24 hrs . Movies under the stars is cool. Only a few places for those of us that smoke but not totally banned ( the players bar even sells cigars). If you have ever been to Mexico before  - save your money on the shore excursions. Mexico is Mexico.

Be sure to plan on hitting all the shows---Very good quality.

Burn three days vaca and have a ball. Can't wait to do it again!Love

Great value, great service for a great price! by jc4christa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

For a "last" minute decision to take a cruise for our Anniversary, we thoroughly enjoyed our time aboard the Golden Princess. The price was excellent for a balcony stateroom.  Only dislike was it was too short for us!  Next time we book will be for a longer cruise!  The staff overall was mostly professional, our "traditional" dinner in the Canaletto Room was tasty every night as well as our breakfast in the same room!

I recommend purchasing the "Cafe Selects Coffee Card" if you enjoy specialty coffees like Lattes and Frappuccinos, made to order & to your liking for less than $2 per drink for a 20oz size drink.

The weather wasn't the greatest (traveled early Dec 2014) so wasn't able to enjoy the amenities outside but did take part in the games, movies, theater, and the music & ambiance in the Piazza Room as well as just plain relaxing on my balcony or in one of the lounges playing Phase 10!

The Golden Princess is a very nice size ship and has many balcony staterooms, more than other ships that sail out of the Los Angeles port. Going into Ensenada was not a highlight for us (been there a few times in the past) but the voyage going & leaving there makes up for it!

Love cruising by Imbirdie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

Thoroughly enjoyed our cruise. It is our annual cruise and Princess treats us like royalty. Everything was top notch. My only complaint is that at the time some work was getting done and it was hard to find a bathroom. I wonder where the people that had been using the pool went.... ? HA

Good enough by idluv4missions

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

Food was great.  Service was a 3 star and so were the shows. Did not like where the kid drop off was located, right next to the smoking lounge.  The pool water in the indoor pool was way too cold to enjoy.

Workers were nice but seem too busy to show extra care.  The ship on deck 14 seem old.  Ship needs to be refurbished again.

3 Days seemed like a week by pias107

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

This cruise really exceeded our expectations.  We never cruised Princess before and are already planning our next cruise with them.  This is the perfect getaway and they don't scrimp on service or amenities just because it's a short cruise.  Love the "anytime" dining and the specialty restaurants.   I highly recommend this cruise.

I really wanted to like the cruise by jishisme

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

This was my first cruise ever and I was super excited for it, not only to go on a cruise but also because it was my honeymoon. The cruise overall was fine in itself- there was plenty to do and the food was amazing. I think what really killed it for us was our room steward. We had our privacy tag in the door, and he would knock on our door at all times, day or night, within 1 hour of the last time he knocked. I asked him to give us some privacy (we are on our honeymoon after all), so his version of privacy is to just open the door without knocking. I am not a push over, so I let him know that this would not be tolerated, so he went back to knocking on our door incessantly. He even opened our door at 6am the morning of our disembarkation, while I was changing, and then ran out and I could not find him again. Would not recommend

Golden Princess |Nov 17, 2014 by ThomasHo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

Excellent cruise for the money.  We were already in the LA/San Diego area so this cruise was just perfect timing as our friends from LA had already booked this cruise.  Instead of staying at the hotel, we decided to take this cruise also.  Besides we had booked the November 20 Golden Princess cruise last month so this ended up being a back to back cruise for us.

Anniversary Cruise by madlindsays

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

The Princess cruise line was definitely a superior experience to a carnival cruise we took two anniversaries ago. The price was very reasonable for all that was included within the boat. There were so many on-board activities it kept all busy yet relaxed. The activities for the children with the strict chaperoning was a joy to observe. After docking in Mexico we rented a golf cart and toured the city to our merriment. We loved our cruise so much I should give it 5 stars but there was a constant presence of a certain social sport team that brought the "party cruise atmosphere". They overwhelmed the bar staff and wait staff which slowed our service noticeably. Having to constantly witness college club like behavior especially around our two kids would be the only downside to an otherwise very romantic weekend. From the firsthand accounts of many regular cruise goers we met this was not a norm for the Princess Cruise Lines and we believed them. We will definitely be booking with the Princess Cruise Lines again.

Great getaway cruise by lmatteo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

This was a relaxing very enjoyable 3 day cruise. The Golden Princess is a nice ship that provides good service and is well maintained. The entertainment is good, the pools are nice, the food is ok in the dining rooms and good in the casual lido deck area. The pastry chef on board Golden is very good and all the deserts will be great. Balcony cabins are very good size and the balconies are large. As on most ships the spa is nice but way over priced, a pedicure is $75.00 get one at home before boarding average is only $30.00 nation wide. Embarking and debarking was very well organized and made easy. Have been on 21 cruises on many different lines some short some 14 days, for a 3 day getaway this ship and cruise was worth the money. Not the best food but but not the worst either. I do think it is the nicest ship making that 3 day mexico cruise in the month of Oct and Nov.

now addicted to cruising by aamieromaniello

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Mexico

I had a interior room which was fine didn't miss the window plus they had camera pointed live off ship so we left that on. This was our first cruise so didn't no what to expect room was greater than expected. Food in dining rooms were amazing!!!!! buffet was ok. Entertainment was fun. We bought the drink package so we didn't have to worry about cocktails which worked in our favor but is pricey. The pools were nice I liked how they had a pool for just adults. Ocean was beautiful but Ensenada was gross if we did this cruise again I don't think I would get off not worth it. Staff was great they were like family saying hi and remembering you it was nice. Cant wait to plan my next cruise.

Sailing Away by smsz1

Enjoyable and relaxing cruise.  Destinations were good.  Workers were polite and food was good, except buffet was okay.  Entertainment was nice, some shows could use update.  Ship, overall, could use a small, updated remodel.
