Princess Alaska Cruise

Sail Date: May 23, 2009

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

We sailed the Golden Princess on a recent Alaska cruise. The ship is the second largest in the fleet and is quite beautiful. The pools were very popular, as was the spa. There were lots of onboard activities with the staff. The crew was to a person great! Everyone was very friendly, happy and efficient. The boarding process and disembarkation went very smoothly and quickly for a 2600 passenger ship.

We were a bit disappointed in the port of call schedule, and should have checked those times more closely before booking our cruise. We enjoyed the zip line excursion in Juneau and hoped to do the one in Ketchikan again. However, our Ketchikan stop started very early in the morning and we sailed again by 11:30 am - so there wasn't sufficient time for that activity. The day was perfect and we would have liked to have a full day in that little city.

The port call for Victoria, Canada, was to have been from 7:00-11:00 pm, which did not seem like good shore timing. However, due to seas that were to rough for that size ship to dock, we missed that port all together.

Pros: The ship was beautiful and the crew was outstanding!

Cons: One port call was too short and not at the right time of day for the excursion we wanted, and we totally missed a second port of call due to sea conditions.

Recommends Golden Princess? Yes!

Skagway, Alaska
Skagway is small but has some of the most unique shops on the cruise! If you are looking for Northwest Coast Native art this is the place to look as they offer lots of one of a kind items. There is a spectacular quilt shop offering fabrics you can't find outside, as well as a shop offering musk ox yarn that can't be had anywhere else.
Juneau, Alaska
Juneau is a nice little place to visit. There are the usual port shopping areas as well as a tram up the mountain for spectacular views. We especially enjoyed the zip line excursion and highly recommend it for the adventure-minded. The zip staff is very knowledgable and have safety practices in place every step of the way. They are also lots of fun and make the experience especially memorable.
Don't Miss: The zip line excursion is great!
Ketchikan, Alaska
Ketchikan is a great port for it offers the totem park with original totem poles and a true view of native Alaskan history. However, we did not have time on this cruise to take advantage of this port due to the timing of the port call.
Don't Miss: On previous cxruises we have very much enjoyed the zip line excursion - it's the best!
