An awesome vacation!

Room Type: Inside

We recently sailed on the Golden Princess for the 1st time to Alaska (Inside Passage). We took our kids (ages 12 and 9) for the 1st time also. We really enjoyed Alaska - what an amazing place! As far as the ship was concerned we loved the dining room - we had the best waiter/asst waiter team we have ever had on a cruise (Renzo & Artur). They were absolutely wonderful! And, of course, the food was excellent. We did not try any of the specialty dining rooms - we didn't particularly care for the fact that you had to pay extra for that (and after all the food in the main dining room is so good, why go anywhere else?) All the shore excursions were outstanding. Our kids participated in the kids program on several different days, but since they regularly go to the YMCA for childcare - they didn't see a huge difference and only wanted to do some of the more unusual activities, so mostly they did stuff with us. The time passed so quickly for all of us we couldn't believe when we got back to Seattle. Being able to catch the ship in Seattle was a huge plus for us (we live locally). What a great deal that was! Both my kids were close to refusing to leave the ship at all - so they had a great time (as did we). We haven't cruised in over 10 years and were sad to find that the Midnight Buffet is no more and we also weren't crazy about the new tipping policy. We always liked to give directly to those that helped us out so much and now our money just goes into a big pool. We were also surprised that we had to pay for soda - when we last cruised it was included in the price of the cruise (now it is 3.95 per day per person). Overall we enjoyed ourselves immensely and so did our kids - so now we know we can start cruising (w/them) again! :)

Pros: The food! and Alaska

Cons: 7 days is just not enough...

Recommends Golden Princess? Yes!

Ship Quality
Cabin / Stateroom
We chose an inside stateroom (we don't see the need to pay that much extra for a veranda), so of course it was small - but we did have enough room for all our stuff. The beds were not terribly comfortable. I would have liked it if we could have had adjoining staterooms with the kids, but there were none available.
