I took the Eastern Mediterranean cruise in November 2006. While the cruise itinerary was ideal with a great number of stops, the ship was a bit lacking in quality and service. Apparently after I am writing this review, the ship was going into wetdock to be overhauled, so conditions may have improved. For the price, you get average quality of service and quality of food. I would have expected more for the price. Freeseating dining is a bit tiresome and the reservation process for the dining room is extremely unhelpful. Overall, it was an average cruising experience with a great set of ports and sights.

Pros: Cruise Schedule and Tours

Cons: Ship definitely needed to be refreshed - service is marginal

Recommends Golden Princess? No.

Ship Quality
At the time, the ship was really "worn out". The condition of the staterooms were very worn and the interior furnishings could have used updating. Recently, this ship went into wet dock in order to be refurbished. Maybe it is much better.
Food and Dining
Food is extremely average. It is about the quality you would get from a Sizzler or Old Country Buffet. Pastry chefs are excellent however. Would not recommend freestyle dining. It would be better to have reservations. Freeseating is great if you want to be social and make new friends every day for 12 days. Gets a little old.
Cabin / Stateroom
Stateroom was average. Shows wear and tear and needed to be refreshed. See overall ship comment
Service and Staff
At the time of this sail, the cruise director was British and assistant cruise director was flamboyantly gay. It reflects in the activities and understanding of their clients. I didn't feel that they were suited to a predominantly straight, American client base.
Artist selection was great and shows were very entertaining. Activities are targeted to a more mature audience and not for middle aged or younger people. It would have been nice to service this demographic at least a little.
