Review summary

A great ship with an even better itinerary. We would definitely recommend this cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were told we could embark beginning at 12:30. We showed up at 10:45 and were checked in immediately. There was no line. We boarded the ship at 11am. Very smooth process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was overall excellent. We bought the dining package and ate at Chops, Sabor and Giovanni’s table. Chops had arguably the best steak I’ve ever had, my party agreed. Sabor and Giovanni were good but not outstanding, no complaints form either. The main dining room was excellent and the desserts were wonderful. The windjammer was good for what it is, a Buffett. Cafe Promenade had great coffee as usual.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Pools were good size and we never had a problem finding a chair. We didn’t do any of the other activities (flow rider, mini golf) but they looked nice.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Good: Aerial duo performance, Mo5aic, the comedians (except the guys 18+ show), comedy hypnosis. So-so: Marquee, Once Upon a Time. Bad: guys 18+ comedy show was heavily political and he didn’t connect with the crowd.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service was quick, no waits at most bars. Our room steward knew us well and was always chatty and friendly. Service was overall fantastic. However, the sales pitch for the dining package was heavily pushed the first couple of days. We got tired of telling the staff that we had already purchased the package.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was showing its age but is due for dry dock in the next few months. The layout of floor 3 was awkward. To get from forward to aft, you needed to go up to floor 4 and walk through the casino and then back down to floor 3, this happened a lot. Small issue but the cup holders in the theatre are too small to fit most size cups which got annoying. The rooms were well laid out. The ship was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
No complaints about cabin layout or cleanliness. The balcony is the only way to go!

Ship tip

You can board before the stated time of 12:30pm.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

We stayed at hotel Casablanca the night before the cruise which we were very pleased with. We walked around town and enjoyed lunch at a local spot, El Hamburguer.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

We booked a swim with dolphins excursion through RC. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. The group size was rather large for our liking and the site was under a bit of construction and got noisy at times. The guides were excellent and we got ample time with the dolphins.

Bridgetown, Barbados

We booked the submarine excursion through RC. The bus arrived late and had no AC. Thankfully it was just a short ride to Atlantis. The submarine experience was phenomenal, we all had a great time. We saw sea turtles, stingrays, barracudas and a shipwreck. It could have lasted a bit longer in my opinion. Overall it was a great time.

Castries, St. Lucia

We booked a bus tour through Cosol Tours. The tour guide was friendly, funny and knowledgeable. The weather did not play along and it rained most of the day. We had a great experience visiting the banana plantations and the Pitons. The snorkeling at the beach between the Pitons was phenomenal. My wife got rather car sick as the guide drove very fast and the roads through the mountains were very curvy and hilly. This tour would be perfect if the weather had played along.

St. John's, Antigua

We booked a swim with stingrays excursion through RC. Stingray island was located a mile or two off shore. There was quite a few people which meant the water were stirred up and cloudy, visibility with goggles was limited. There were also large waves which made standing still difficult and we stepped on several sharp rocks. The instructors explained the seas were unusually rough. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and we were able to take many pictures and hug and feed the stingrays.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

We visited Maho beach on an excursion booked through Royal Caribbean. The road adjacent to the beach is very busy and narrow and became a bit troublesome to walk down to get from one side of the beach to the other. The water was very rough but was the perfect temperature and a beautiful light blue. The beach was almost non existent as water is high this time of years. We saw about a dozen plains fly in overhead. Overall good experience despite heavy occasional rain.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
We usually do self disembarkation but decided to have our bags offloaded this time. We were able to leave the ship on time but the line for customs was very long, our bags were all separated and took awhile to find.
