Great time with kids and grandparents

Sail Date: November 01, 2012

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Balcony

The ship was very nice. We came with high expectations of the ship and it delivered. There were plenty of attractions and things to do. Pool temp was a bit cold during our trip (Nov) so not much time was spent in the water\, but rather poolside. We expected pool staff and bartenders to be happy and fun like they usually are-- but on this trip they looked and behaved like they wanted to finish their shift.
We are accustomed to getting hello's from every staff member on board-- we did not get that consistently throughout the week. We also have enjoyed being remembered by staff when returning to attractions and bars-- we did not get that either. There was also a bit of miscommunication on when to bring towels to the beach-- so we visited Labadee without ship-provided towels.
The Chops waiter was awesome and provided excellent service. The Vintages staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable about wines. However\, when we opted for the dinner with wine-pairing they offer\, we were less impressed with their interaction with us.
The main theater shows were great as always. The ship was kept nice and clean.

Pros: The itenerary and destinations were fantastic.

Cons: We were not as impressive with the service this time. It was hit or miss with service in different areas of the ship. For example\, Chops and Vintages staff was superb\, while bar tenders and pool & towel staff was stiff and unpleasant.

Recommends Freedom of the Seas? Yes!

Ship Quality
Cleaning crew was on point wiping down the ship.
Food and Dining
We ate at the main dining room\, at Chops and at Vintages for a wine-pairing dinner. The dining room food was average-- we expect better quality. The NY strip was very hard and Captain's night lobster was cold and stiff. We were promised a special Banana Foster dessert by the Head Waiter\, who originally said we would get mid-week (Weds). He finally came through on Saturday night\, the last night and the dessert ended up being a cold bowl of bananas with syrup and 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream! Dissapointing.
Cabin / Stateroom
We found our stateroom requiring detail cleaning. There was heavy dust on top shelves and toilet needed additional disinfecting. We gave our stateroom attendant all week to catch up on this cleaning and he never did.
Service and Staff
Very few crew members went above and beyond. Our previous RCCL cruise was spectacular and the entire staff we felt went above and beyond. We came to this ship expecting even higher level of service and did not get it.
Entertainment
Great shows\, comedians and schedule-- as always.
Children's Programs
This was our first trip with all 3 kids (ages 12\,9\,8). Having cruised on the Disney ship\, we were expecting for the Adventure Club to be on par with activities for the kids. After signing them up the first day\, the kids were not excited to return. They are pretty independent kids\, but they were getting bored at the club.
