My wife and I took this cruise on the second week of January. Freedom of the Seas is one of the biggest cruise ships which means a lot of unique advantages as well as disadvantages. I have allergies so\, the air quality is a critical factor for my health. This cruise ship is a big artificial island which depends on a massive A/C system. But for the sake of saving money the quality of the A/C system was seriously compromised in the cabins. On the first morning of the trip I woke up with a terrible headache. People with allergies are like canaries in the mine. We are the first ones to react to bad air quality and can immediately tell if it is from old air filters or dry air. I suspected the filter in our room needed to be replaced\, because of the smoky smell of the air in the room. I called the maintenance to check the filters\, but it took them two full days to come over and check the A/C filters. Meanwhile\, I continued to have a terrible headache and we asked the reception if they could change our room but they said it was not possible. However we already knew that about 100 cruisers had missed their cruise trip because of the flight delays and cancellations due to extreme weather over the previous weekend\, so probably there were be a lot of rooms available. On the third day of our trip\, finally a maintenance guy showed up and replaced the A/C filter in our room. The old filter was filthy with dust and sticky smoke residue. I have never seen anything like that. My headache was less severe after that point and I always felt better when we were outside. We still think that Freedom of the Seas is a great cruise ship. This was the first cruise trip for my wife and I. We had made our decision based on the reviews posted here\, and everything positive mentioned about this cruise is definitely true; including the food\, entertainment and itinerary. However the air quality in our cabin ruined our trip. So\, I recommend anyone who has sever allergies or asthma to serious
