Overrated Cruise!!

Sail Date: April 10, 2011

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Oceanview

Dirty, poor service, not accommodating, venues too small for a full ship, many broken things

Pros: Kids having freedom to enjoy kids activities

Cons: Service

Recommends Freedom of the Seas? No.

Ship Quality
I found the ship to be dirty, particularly around the pool areas which stink of mold and mildew.
Food and Dining
Food was often just a rehash of items served from previous nights. The quality was already mediocre, so a rehash wasn't too tasty. They will not accommodate any changes...for example if they offer a turkey, avocado and cheddar cheese sandwich, you cannot get an avocado and turkey sandwich. Also, don't ask to change your table!!!! Our family of five with young kids got tabled with religious folk and we were told we couldn't change tables...but they were sorry. Great!
Service and Staff
Everyone spoke English until you asked for an accommodation...then nobody could understand you. It was rare to find someone who could help you out. We didn't realize the first night that we didn't have any apple juice for our daughter so I got dressed and headed out to get some. I was told that you can't get apple juice after a certain hour....can you imagine that! That was pretty much the benchmark for service for the duration of the ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
Fine. As everyone says, the shower is too small.
Entertainment
Children's Programs
Some good/some bad.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
A family of five to one of the top 10 beaches costs almost $100 and if you live on the east coast, I can assure you that this beach is NOT one of the top 10 beaches. Don't waste your money. Tour the island so you know where to go when you come back or stay on the ship.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
Nice that you can walk right into town and to a beach.
Cococay (Cruiseline's Private Island)
Very nice but rocky beach and water...expect to bring water shoes. Kids club on cococay was terrible.
