We booked this cruise about 6 months before travelling through and were very excited and pleased with their terrific service and planning for us. Arriving at the pier in Bayonne, NJ was wonderful and getting checked onto the ship and receiving our luggage was a speedy process prior to sailing. Our cabin was quite spacious with plenty of room for all of our clothes and even our luggage. The welcome buffet lunch in the Windjammer Cafe was plentiful and tasty. We had been on this ship before and it was just as beautiful and as welcoming as the first time. We have been on 20 cruises; 7 of which have been on Royal Caribbean and we will definitely return to Royal Caribbean.

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food on the ship was great. We chose late seating and had a wonderful waiter (Nacklay) and Asst. Waiter (Elicia) on the 4th floor Dining Room who were able to satisfy our needs easily. Once they knew what we liked, they made sure that it was always available to us. There were 8 people at our table, so satisfying everyone is not an easy thing to do, but they were able to accomplish this. Dining choices were varied and were able to satisfy all of us at the table.

The shows at the Palace Theater were very good and entertaining. From the Explorer Singers and Dancers to the headline acts, there was definitely a good variety of entertainment offered. The ice show was even more spectacular than the first time we saw it on the Adventure of the Seas several years ago.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was extremely friendly especially in the dining rom. On the first night of dining, there was a problem with the location of our table and the maitre d' was very accommodating and was able to find a more suitable location for us. By the second day, the waiter and asst. waiter knew what we liked to eat and drink and each night thereafter, our favorite items were prepared and ready for us )salads, soft drinks, appetizers). It was a pleasure to be served by them.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The layout of the ship was very easy to navigate once we found our way around in the first few days. Our cabin on Deck 7 had great accessibility to all areas of the ship. The size of the ship was perfect - it never seemed too crowded in any area - and it was not too overwhelmingly large. The public areas always looked clean whenever we passed through them.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The stateroom was a perfect size and was very comfortable. Even the bed was comfortable. We have been on other ships where the beds were not too comfortable, but this was definitely not the case on the Explorer of the Seas. The balcony was large enough although we did not use it a lot. As I stated earlier, the location of our stateroom was excellent and made it easy for us to navigate around the ship.

Pros: The friendliness of the staff, good food, beautiful ship

Cons: Smoking allowed in the casino, some slot machines were very old and still used coins instead of paper

Recommends Explorer of the Seas? Yes!
