Nice cruise

Sail Date: June 01, 2010

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Balcony

As is usuallly the case with RCCL, it was a nice cruise with much to do and too little time to do it all.

Pros: almost everything

Cons: nothing major

Recommends Explorer of the Seas? Yes!

Ship Quality
was a little surprised for the first time in 12 cruises with RCCL, that parts of the ship were showing overt signs of corrosion/rust...this was never as apparent on prior journeys...perhaps a reflection of harsh economic realities?
Cabin / Stateroom
typical...small but comfortable with a balcony
Food and Dining
always appreciate the menu choices during formal and informal dining that allow for a healthier approach to the cuisine...I seek low fat, minimal red meat options
Entertainment
a number of great comedians
had a talented Elvis impersonator
Service and Staff
Very apparent cruise director....abundant energy and a unique style. Kind of concerned about some aspects of RCCL management policy with regard to its workforce; suspect many of the stateroom stewards are very underpaid and are generally unhappy with work conditions if you ask them; South Americans and European staff voiced concern over the significant upsurge in hirings from South Asia (India) and perceived preferential treatment Indian employees were getting. Don't really know....except that the % of Indian workers was much greater than 5 years ago...the counter I suppose is that this group seemed hard working and generally quite friendly. One interesting aspect of some of the employees' complaints was that RCCL was hiring people who have anti-American sentiments in thought and action...this would be a counter-productive policy at best if true!
