7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip) Sail Date: November 26, 2011 Ship: Eurodam Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Family (older children) Reviewed: 5 years ago
I have has several other cruises on Princess & MSC, this was my first on Holland. The Line was rated comparable to Princess and above MSC so my expectations were good. The staff was very friendly and accommodating while the officers were not. The Captains formal dinner was a joke. You never met him or any officer one on one. No pictures offered, no reception line, or introduction. In the main stage area you saw them on stage that was it. Oh yea.a single glass of Champaign and not very high quality. Very disappointing
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Great Food in dining room and Lidio dining. Extra costs for most dining rooms and reservations full! Only sampled one other dining area and it was good. The afternoon Tea needs work. Tea sandwiches served on small soft rolls not bread & burned had on teapot handle. Should have had a cover on it.

The entertainment was mediocre and the set and costumes appeared old or much worn.
Service and Staff

The food was good and staff great. I have had a great tour of bridge, engine rooms, & staff area in other ships, just had to sign up limited space.Holland charged $150 a person for this tour! The extra costs everywhere you turned, from exercise to or daily activities, to types of photos for purchase.

The small things were noticeable: the lack of pool area lounge chairs (due to the cabanas); the lack of hot tubs and small & not clean; If you needed shade and were in the adult pool, there was none. No access to the sauna or spa area without paying; Spa treatments 2Xs higher than other cruise lines. No full massage specials. It was the little niceties that we have come to expect were lacking.
Cabin / Stateroom

Great bed, clean and roomy for Veranda suit. The door to the veranda would not stay closed unless locked. The veranda light was turned off by the Bridge at sundown, however our neighbor's worked. Was not informed when reservations made. Plus took 4 calls before we were told why our light would not work.
Pros: Staff, Food, & destinations
Cons: The extra costs for those things that had always been included on previous cruises
