I was a little surprised at the "age" of the ship considering it is a relatively new ship. Specifically, the staterooms were showing signs of age (chipped bath tub, broken shower handle). While these could be overlooked as simple aesthetics, the temperature of the water in the stateroom was the worst I have ever experienced. It self regulated from cold to hot in both the shower and the lavatory. In fact, the hot water was so hot in the lavatory, that usually simply using the cold was the best course so as not to scald my hands.
Beyond the stateroom, the ship looked very well maintained. The crew was friendly and the food was very good. Our wait staff was wonderful. We arrived at most ports of call slightly ahead of schedule. The captain even took a different route the first day to avoid a storm at sea. Disembarking the ship at each port was handled very well.
It was nice to see the new safety briefing used on this cruise. On all previous cruises, we have had to put on our life vests and go to our lifeboat stations. This year, no life jackets. It made the whole experience, quicker, easier, and much more bearable.
The first two days of the cruise, all of the self service food was not self service. This was to make sure that the transmission of communicable diseases by any passengers was not spread. After 2 days, it went back to normal. While this was a bit of an inconvenience, it was better than catching one of those 48 hour bugs and being in the cabin for a couple days.
The food was typical Holland America. Some items could use a little improvement (soups), but overall, the food on HAL is tasty and very well done. They even have sugar free items for diabetics. Overall the food was excellent.
If you are looking for a relaxing cruise, I would recommend this one.

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Good variety of food.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Several activities to choose from. A couple times there were conflicts on what to attend.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Most of the staff was very helpful. It was obvious on one occasion that one member of the staff was simply placating a request and had no intention of following up.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Public areas maintained very well.

Cabin / Stateroom

The temperature of the water in the stateroom was the worst I have ever experienced. The room was not as clean as others in the past.

Beautiful beach and crystal clear water.
Don't Miss: Nature Walk

Our tour guide simply drove around. At least the fort was self guided.
Don't Miss: The fort

Despite the weather, plenty of opportunity for swimming and shopping. The Iguanas at the dock were numerous.
Don't Miss: Megans Bay

We visited the salt house and lighthouse. Both were excellent because of our guide.

Pros: Relaxing atmosphere

Cons: Weather
