A good cruise "not a great cruise"

Sail Date: October 25, 2008

Reviewed: 7 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

The ship itself is beautiful - very understated. It is immaculate, someone is always cleaning something. The food was great. The drawback to this line was most of the cruisers were well into their 70's or older. The entertainment was really lacking on this ship. The bars were empty at night, with the exception of the sports bar because the World Series was on during our cruise. Once the series was over, there was literally nothing to do at night except go to the casino. There was very little live music on the ship at all and the live music there was wasn't very good.

Pros: Food

Cons: Entertainment

Recommends Eurodam? No.

Service and Staff
Most of the staff was friendly but it seems to me that the days of the staff really interacting with the passengers is gone. This ship was very understaffed. Most nights when we went to a bar for a drink before dinner, we had to go to the bar and get the drinks ourselves because they didn't have enough help.

One night in the dining room we wanted a drink with dinner but the bar server never come to our table. We asked the waiter to send him and he never did come.
The entertainment was not good at all. I really expected lots of live music, different things going on at night in the different bars - nothing. We thought maybe because so many seniors were on board that was the reason for the lack of entertainment.
Cabin / Stateroom
Stateroom was typical - nothing special.
Ship Quality
Food and Dining
I thought the food was excellent. The anytime dining feature (or whatever they call it on Holland America) is a great idea and works very well.
Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)
Beautiful - probably the most relaxing day of the cruise.
Don't Miss: The beach of wonderful
Grand Turk Island
Nothing going on at this port - this is a waste of time.
Don't Miss: You can miss everything here.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
We did a great snorkel trip
Don't Miss: Shopping - if you don't mind being accosted by hords of salespeople as soon as you enter a shop.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan is very pretty and you can do a walking tour of the city yourself
Don't Miss: We did the biolumenscent pond which is beautiful but don't be fooled by the shore excursions description of this tour as a leisurely kayak ride to the pond - it is anything but.
