Ok ship with GREAT staff by davdell

Great staff! Ship is perfect for travel to Cuba but as others have mentioned, it is older and doesn't have all the "bells and whistles that the newer ships have. I wouldn't recommend this ship for people with kids. Not much for them to do.

Extraordinary experience. by MaureenGrace

Our ship rescued two Costa Rican fishermen lost at sea. I watched the rescue for 3 hours. Also I got a close look at the 2 men en route to the medical clinic. The next day, as we were returning from Jamaica, I recognized them and went over to shake their hands. (They were being escorted off the ship) It was a moment of pure good will that I will remember the rest of my life. Also, on a lighter note, we loved the Caribbean Gold machine!!

Was not worth it. by blbyrd05

We booked this cruise solely because we wanted to go to Cuba. The overall experience was not worth it especially for our honeymoon. I wished I had looked into other cruises or just booked a trip to Cuba.

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible by pcaboo

The ship was old, very small and things didn't work. DO NOT TAKE THIS SHIP!!! Royal Caribbean dropped the ball on this. Royal Caribbean is a brand and a brand is only as good as the weakest link. This was the "broken" link of the chain.

An awesome Caribbean cruise!!! by maedonna

Just being onboard a beautiful ship, with family, friends & food, stopping at unique ports of call ESPECIALLY CUBA, being entertained by our Waiters at dining, watching the water on the vast ocean made it all an awesome experience!! The entertainment was a low point on this ship but I had lots else going on to override that issue.

Could have been better by ladyrider8468

Overall we had a good time. The ship is small without many of the big ship amenities and activities which equals few children, definitely a plus for us. They missed the opportunity to make up for this with the dining experience. The food was not near as good as expected. The waitstaff were exceptional. The spa is right by the pool so for my massage I heard the movie literally blaring while trying to relax. The cabin was small but adequate. Cuba was an awesome port to visit and really what the trip was all about.

Empress of the Seas is a quaint older ship, a pleasant change from the modern behemoths that they are building today. However dining is somewhat limited and the buffet was a little disaponiting. Choice of beer very disappointment, no craft brew or Premium European beers.

Suitable cruise to experience Cuba by Ron1120

This is an older ship and needs some updating. Inside cabins are very small. Food is good, but dining room food is no better than Windjammer location. Ports of call were very good. Tours were good. Staff were all helpful and service was very good. No steam room and no sauna.

Very good trip to Havana. Flaw: too little time in Havana. RC should skip Grand Cayman. by trogolom

The ship is small and a little old but well maintained. Crew is AWESOME with capital letters especially in the restaurants and the cafe. Food, for being a cruise, is very good. Embarcation and disembarking was fast except in Cienfuegos, where you had to use the tenders to get ashore and it took us like an hour and a half to be called (plus almost the hour under the sun to change currency, that takes 2-21/2 hours of the time you get to spend there). The entertainment is okay. Only complain: we lost precious time in Grand Cayman and too little time in Havana.

Not what we paid for. by Sat54836763

We booked thinking we had two ports to visit in Cuba. Two weeks prior Royal Caribbean replaced Santiago, Cuba with Key West. This change was disappointing and our disappointment also extended to the shore excursion in Havana. Offering a 4 hour Panoramic tour of Havana when more than half of the tour was in complete darkness is sad. Royal Caribbean didn’t live up to the quality of service they have provided in the past. I would not recommend this ship or itenerary to others.

Disappointed by 2lovely4you

The highlight of this trip was Cuba, but got there to late to see Cuba in the daytime. Also, Royal Caribbean cancelled a Port we were going to in Cuba the week before the trip.

If you can't do a cruise right than don't offer it. by DavidinKC

The ship's crew did the best they could with limited resources. Cuba & RCI headquarters did not do a good job! 14 hours in Havana but only about 2 hours of daylight (if you asked your excursions were refunded). They dropped 1 of 2 Cuban ports but they choose to tell after the cancellation period; some only found out after they arrived in Miami. (Actually someone who booked this cruise last Spring said that there were originally 3 ports in Cuba.)

Not much of Cuba. Just 1 hour of daylight. by warmandsunny

Advertised as “best of Cuba”. Santiago was cancelled. We stepped on land in Havana about 4 pm. It was dark at 5:30, so we saw almost nothing On the bus tour. Royal Caribbean refunded the money for the bus tour, but we did not have the opportunity to see Cuba. We were given a day in Key West to replace Cuba. We did not want FL....we signed up to see Cuba. Staff was very good. It was not their fault, but the decision makers for RC mislead everyone.

A big disappointment by ladams77071

The cruise was advertised to be "The Best of Cuba" but Santiago was totally cancelled and replaced by Key West and the Havana day began in the late afternoon and by the time we cleared customs it was nighttime and we did not see much of Havana at all. We were very disappointed in how RCCL organized and misrepresented this cruise. Ourselves and hundreds of other passengers demanded refunds, some for the entire cruise. Terrible waste of our money.

Best Of Cuba? We paid $75.00 for the visa, we did not see anyhting about Cuba by yiuall

Very disappointed. Our main purpose of signing up this cruise is Cuba. First, Royal Caribbean canceled one of the Cuba port about 2 months before the departure and replaced with Key West which we were there before. Second Havana was the only Cuba port in the itinerary. When we arrived Havana it was 3 pm. It took almost 3 hours to go thru immigration and by the time we got out to the city, it was pitch dark. So we paid for the Visa to visit Cuba and see nothing. I did not see anything matched the theme of the cruise 8 days Best of Cuba. Any possibility of a certain refund?
