We sailed out of New York on 10/6/02 to Bermuda. Embarkation was very smooth and efficient. Passports were checked numerous times and were looked at in great detail, making us feel very safe. Food service was very good. We needed to catch the ferry one evening and our waiters were very accommodating and rushed to get us something to eat in the dining room. Meals provided great variety. Of course, there was plenty of it! The entertainment provided something for everyone. There were comedians, singers and dancers, and a juggler. The cabins on Nordic Empress were small (we had an inside room), but served its purpose. It was very clean and had a bed and shower. We cannot say enough good things about the staff. Everyone was very, very friendly and helpful, with the exception of one of the cashiers in the casino. The cruise director Richard was fabulous! He made himself visible the whole trip. He was always stopping to talk to passengers, if for nothing more than to say hello. He participated in all of the onboard activities, which you don't always see the cruise director do on cruises. The captain of the Nordic Empress was also out and about on the ship. He talked several times before the evening entertainment and was frequently making announcements over the PA system. Bermuda is a beautiful island. This is our second time cruising here. Nordic Empress docks at the Royal Naval Dockyards for two days and that is about the only negative thing about this cruise. Once you have taken a walk through the Clocktower Mall, seen the glassblowers and maybe go to the museum, there isn't much to do on this part of the island. We would like to see more time in the capital of Hamilton which is more centrally located. Last trip we road the public buses and it was okay, but waiting for the buses was a waste of time. This trip we rented scooters and it was a blast! You can go anywhere you want. Just watch out for the locals passing you! It costs about $100 for two days rental for a two-seater. We found a coupon in one of the convenience stores that gave us $15 off a two day rental so we paid about $85. Horseshoe Bay is a beautiful beach, don't miss it. We will definately be going to Bermuda again sometime and would consider the Nordic Empress.
