Disney Fantasy/Western Caribbean by DarleneDiehl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Beautiful ship. Not tacky and loud like other cruise ships I've been on. We had an inside stateroom and the "fake" porthole was awesome bc it was actually like a live stream so we were seeing pretty much what everyone with a window saw. We like inside cabins bc they're so quiet. The food was good but a little bit too gourmet for me. I like a nice steak and salad, these meals were beautiful to look at and most of them were very good but not delicious.....to me. I'm sure that is just my taste bc others at our table loved everything. I actually ordered from the kid's menu several times! Cabin size, cleanliness, storage were all excellent. We had some toilet trouble and had to call for service a few times but they were there immediately. The bathtub is an awesome addition that I haven't had on other cruise ships. The turn-down service was about the same as I've had on Carnival or Royal Caribbean. We had a queen bed and a pull out sofa. I slept on the sofa bed bc I can sleep anywhere. Well, I can sleep anywhere and was not able to sleep the first night at all. This was THE worst mattress I have ever slept on. I was really surprised that it was so bad I couldn't sleep bc I never have a problem with that. I asked the maid and at front desk to do something about it and offered suggestions such as putting a bunk or twin mattress on it, putting cushions from the pool lounge chairs on it or doubling up a comforter and making the bed over it. They put a doubled up comforter on it and I actually had to double it again so it was 4 layers in thickness and place that under my body. That actually worked and I placed a pillow at the end where my feet would be. The maid did not do any turn-down service on my bed though and I didn't care for that. In comparison to Carnival, I don't think I would enjoy Carnival as much now that I've been on Disney but I have to say the service on Carnival was by far much better than Disney. It's not that anyone on Disney was rude or not willing to help but it seems like on Carnival the employees are falling over themselves to keep you happy. When we would leave our cabin for an hour we would come back and the beds would be tightened up, everything tidied up and the cabin cleaned. All day long it was taken care of. Not so with Disney. They came in the morning to make beds and replace towels and at night for turn-down service....on just the bed, not the couch bed. Didn't even tidy up the counter tops. We didn't get ice until we realized we needed to put the bucket in the same place we found it (had moved it to make more room on vanity). We had only moved it to a shelf not 10" away...! I was traveling with my sister so we had separate bills. They continuously messed up the charges and I had to stand in line several times to get it corrected. The morning we got off the ship when we had to swipe our Key to the World card they wouldn't let my sister off the ship bc it showed that her credit card wasn't good. She took care of it while I sat in line with the luggage waiting, delaying our express dis-embarkation process that we had chosen so we could catch a flight. Later we found out that they had charged her card with a bunch of my items AFTER I had gone to customer service TWICE during the week and stood in line to get it straightened out!! It seemed to me that many times if you asked a question you got conflicting information from employees. It didn't seem to matter what the topic was. The thing I love about cruises is how easy they are. You don't have to worry about where to go, how to get there, directions, etc. These mistakes were a big inconvenience that interfered with my experience. They need to tighten up on that end. One morning we were sitting in the Cabanna dining room reading and waiting to eat breakfast. The buffet wasn't open yet bc it was early. Employees were coming into get ready. This is a walk through restaurant so it's not closed off. There are many open sections set up exactly the same that wrap around the front two sides and front of the ship for buffet dining. While we were sitting there an employee came up to us and said they were going to have a meeting and we needed to move. I have to tell you that pissed me off. There were 10 other sections just like the one we were in and they made US move! They could just as easily have moved and let their guests enjoy the morning. I love the adult only areas. There are a lot of them and sufficient room. They were never crowded and we were there on a holiday week. There is one pool area with a swim up bar and a hot tub that butts up to the glass wall overlooking the ocean. It's right on the other side of the main pool and fast food restaurants so it is somewhat noisy. The other two areas with pools are wonderful. Kind of hidden away and very quiet. We read, ate, drank and slept there all day on sea days. Something that was different than other cruise ships I've been on that I didn't care for was that all exterior and "open" areas such as pool decks, adult pool areas, outdoor restaurants, etc. were not "open" but enclosed with glass panels. I didn't like it bc it was pretty warm when the sun was out bc there was no breeze. It did shield wind but I would rather have had a nice breeze. The glass panels are together like a window with only a two inch break at the end of each deck section so there wasn't much air flow. I found that odd for tropical location cruising....? All in all, Disney is the way to go. They do most everything first class. I won't go back to the other cruiselines. Disney ships are beautiful. The public restrooms are first class and decorated beautifully. The Disney "Magic" is imposed in the ship in a very subdued way. Not "in your face" at all. For example, our shower curtain was a beige linen with a gold embroidered nautical and when you looked closely you could see Mickey ears in the pattern. You didn't even notice unless you really looked at it. Then you start noticing little hits of Disney everywhere you go but very subdued. I can't say enough how beautiful the ship is and very clean. There are ups and downs with every vacation experience and Disney wins by far in comparison to other cruises that I have experienced. We didn't have children with us so we didn't pay much attention to the kids activities. All I can say is that you really don't have to interact with kids at all on a Disney cruise if you don't want to. They pay a lot of attention to the fact that the adults are the ones paying and they do a lot to make us happy! The entertainment was wonderful although we missed one show bc there were no seats. I don't think that should happen.

The Best Cruise Ever. by funtimecruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I chose this rating because this cruise line exceed my expectation. Since my family and I have been cruising it's the best we have experience. Yes it's a bit expensive but, it's worth the money. We have cruised with Royal & Carnival however, Disney is at the top of our list in the best cruise line category, crew members/dining room servers/ every last one of them on the ship was fabulous. Each night we get to dine in a different dining room, same table # also we get the same server each night as well. On the other cruise ship it's the same dining room for the 7 days.

Our Family's Best Cruise Ever! by RLJG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise was excellent! Our itinerary was fun! We had never been to Grand Cayman, Costa Maya or Cozumel. We swam with the Sting Rays in the Caymans, snorkled at Costa Maya and rode a dolphin in Cozumel. On board ship, the activities were great! Our 14 year old loved the Vibe, where they even made their own movie and it played in the Buena Visa theater! Our 7 year old loved the the Oceaneers club. She had fun playing, making crafts, making new friends and more! She also loved going to the Bibbity Bobbity boutique and getting made up like a princess! Everyone loved the AquaDuck, the pools and the huge funnel vision screen. Besides the great movies, basketball final games 3 & 4 were shown. The Buena Vista theater played 1st run movies and the plays on the Walt Disney Theater 's stage were awesome! DJ dance parties in the tube were a blast Beat of all was the food! The dining room rotation was fun, the food choices were so terrific, it was hard to choose and the service was wonderful! The servers made dinner fun every night, especially for the kids! Our 7 year old was treated llike a princess nightly! I could add more, but I'll sum this up by saying, Best Vacation Ever!

Party of 5 by Partyof5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We just returned from our wonderful trip on the Disney Fantasy! Mom, Dad and kids ages 15, 13, 10 all boys. They weren't big on the kids club other than my oldest who came in hours after us. Enjoyed everything from the food, cleanliness, characters, service. We had an emergency at home due to the bombing in Boston and they told me to come right up and they would give me a complimentary call home to make sure everyone was safe (which thankfully they were). They were extremely kind in all ways. The shows are amazing, the embark/disembark super easy. Nothing negative at all to say. Don't love cruising but would absolutely cruise again with Disney.

Disney Fantasy...Outstanding! by beef

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Western

All top-notch....food, ship cleanliness and condition, venues, etc. Staff was particularly terrific. They were all friendly and cordial and really were well trained to cater to their audience...kids and families, while also giving great adult service. While we had a bit of rough weather and missed a port, that was all taken in stride nd more time provided at the next port. Castaway Cay was terrific and everything was handles with the same way as described above for on-board. Kudos to Disney for an overall great experience. The embarking and disembarking process was the slickest our group has experienced as well as the way photos are handled.

Our first cruise, Disney Fantacy (of course) by mannypinto513

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My wife and I had never been on a cruise before. We are both fans of all things Disney. The staff on the DISNEY FANTACY were excellent. Although the weather was a bit cool, we still enjoyed our first cruise. The dinners onboard were all four star. We ate at Palo the first evening and Sunday Brunch. A wonderful Five Star experience! Well worth the $20.00 per person charge. All in all a very wonderful cruise.

Great vacation by DisneyFan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was great. The service was phenomenal. No complaints with all the personnel from housekeeping to the restaurant servers. They were all wonderful. The only problem I had was the excursions. Just make sure that if you are traveling with little ones, check to see if there is an age requirement for the excursions even if it is a walking tour. I made that mistake and winded up wasting a day in port.

Great, This has been the 5th cruise I've been on and this is the best one. I enjoyed the staff and the time and attention that was shown. Everyone was friendly and courtesy and very helpful. I love the hostees who clean our Oceanview cabinet and pull down the beds. He kept us informed of the events on the ship and all the main attractions. He was helpful with exploring our options. I would recommend the Disney Fanstasy Cruise to all my family and friends. Keep up the good work!!

Disney Fantasy - Eastern Carib - Jan 2013 by CucCruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We were highly anticipating our first Disney Cruise to be the most fantastic vacation our children (5 & 4) had ever had...but were totally let down. We've cruised 2 dozen times before. The little ones have come with us 4 times. This ship is nothing like a normal cruise experience in some good ways and in my opinion quite a few bad. The good - I really liked the 2 phones they give to each cabin to use throughout the vacation. They were so helpful in keeping in touch with the 2 other cabins that cruised with us. They allowed my husband and I to split up and cater to each child individually without having to search a giant ship to find each other when we needed to. The shows were sooo much fun for the kids (and the adults)!!!! The confetti galore put huge smiles on my kids faces too...just sit within the first 10 rows to experience it. The character visits were too sweet : ) So much easier and faster than seeing a character at Disney World. They were very much in character and gave each child a unique, non-rushed experience. OMGoodness the adult only restaurant Remy!!! We went 4 times. We could not get enough. We let Chef Benoit surprise us and choose what we ate for every course and he hit it out of the park! Seriously Awesome. Gerard was our outstanding server every night and we had such a blast with him. He was a big reason why we kept coming back. Unbelievable experience!!!!!!! The food on the pool deck was so convenient to get a quick snack for the kids or ourselves. The tuna wraps are fantastic. They also have grilled cheese, yummy pizzas, paninis, burgers, wraps. We often grabbed a few quick plates to bring down to the room so the kids could eat dinner before kids club (they went there while we ate dinner at the adult restaurants). The private island Castaway Cay was a big hit with my family. After travelling to beaches at other islands, looking for food, drinks, etc. it was so nice to have everything close to the ship and right at your fingertips. The slides were a blast, there was a good variety of food, waiters bringing you drinks on the beach, and inner tubes to float in. Perfect no problem beach day. The duo Roberto and Daria were so talented! We followed them to the different lounges they played each night. Unique covers of your favorite songs! The way you view and order photos is breathtakingly easy. Instead of scanning through hundreds of strangers pics looking for your own, you scan your keycard and the computer tells you which bookcase and what book they are all in. Brilliant! Such a timesaver!!! Gripes - The lack of pools. Seriously ridiculous how little the kids could swim. There are 2 kid pools on the main deck. One understandably shallow (shaped like Mickey's head), and one with a constant depth of 5'3". Neither pool was very large. Both pools were always so packed the kids didn't have room to do anything but tread water. I am not being sarcastic. No matter how well your child swims -it is not safe. Children trying to jump in end up jumping on top of other children, other children can't tread water like a Navy SEAL so they hang onto your children and drag them under. This was such a total disappointment to me. I am used to a cruise experience where children can actually use the pools for swimming not just peeing. Furthermore to have one pool shallow and one pool TOO deep seems silly to me. Why is there no happy medium, like a shallow end in the deep pool. I am 5'2" I couldn't even play in the pool with my kids because I couldn't stand in the 5'3" pool unless I was 5'7" or taller : ( We found a small splash pool 1.5 feet deep that was not usually very crowded on the deck above one of the adult pools...but that fun only lasts so long. We had 4 sea days, we usually have a blast on sea days playing in the pool on deck outside with our kids. This cruise we couldn't wait to get off the ship to find a beach where we could do just that. This ship was just built. WHAT A TRAGIC DESIGN FLAW! The big slide was a big thrill for my 5 year old and the yellow slide on deck was a hit with my 4 year old. BUT.....to wait for your child at the bottom of the slide means standing and waiting in the shade next to a trash can in the common area where the buffet lets out. So, if your daughter is like mine and does a slide over and over again, you hang out cold in the shade with nothing to do but stand for upwards of 30 min. Bad design. Norwegian Cruise Lines got this one right. The slide conveniently ends facing the pool area. We could sit close by and watch our child whilst enjoying the cruise WE PAID SO MUCH MONEY FOR. While the kids club is extravagant, has loads of different rooms, and scheduled activities like cooking classes, dance parties, and after the first stint with it my children woke up and couldn't wait to go back....it is too big (area wise) for the younger ones. They seemed to be overwhelmed and weren't really guided enough to the activities that were going on. The 6 kids in our group were between 3-6 yrs and we'd drop them off and hear at the end of the night that they couldn't find each other the whole night. It is a crazy big area and definitely needs more staff that guide and interact with the little ones a bit more. Like I said, my kids did fine. The little ones had some issues though. Looking back on this review I have listed a lot of pros and a few cons. The cons to me were just that bad that I won't be sailing this ship again. We made the most of the time we had and instead of swimming all day we spent it playing basketball, mini golf, etc. It just wasn't the cruise I expected it to be. I really thought Disney would get the kids pool area right. They certainly had enough other pools on board for the adults and even one dedicated to the teenagers. But their main clientele was ignored. Next time I'll just take 2 cruises on NCL or Royal Caribbean for the price of 1 Disney cruise.

A beautiful ship! Looks better than any other ship when in port! A great experience. The food quality was good, but not excellent. The server was very stressed and couldn't seem to get everyone at our table served at the same time. She often didnot serve the ladies first. Our tour guide was hard to understand and couldn't keep most people's attention.. On board the ship, it was great! Lots of fun things like first run movies!!!!

Ship was new and well run The servers at each meal could be more efficient, i.e., instead of clearing the table, then provide the desert menu, they could show us the desert menu and clear the table while we review the desert menu.
