High Expectations Not Met by KFDuckworth

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Having been on a Disney cruise in the past, I had some pretty high expectations. Disney is known for being a champion of customer service and on the top of the their with pretty much everything.

Upon boarding the boat, we quickly discovered that some things we were told to be true when booking the cruise a year ago had since changed. This information was not communicated to us in any way aside from updates to their mile long list of policy and procedures on their website. While Disney did their best to meet us half way, this set a negative tone for our very much anticipated vacation.

In addition to that, service was lacking at dinner for the first few nights. When we addressed our concerns to the host the problems were instantly corrected, but it also made for a rough start of our vacation.

Lastly, we ended our cruise by every member of my family getting the norovirus. While I do not know the origin of the virus and I do not blame Disney for this, it did make for a very unpleasant return and end to our vacation.

Overall, this experience will not keep me from going on another Disney cruise because both my girls absolutely love it. However, my expectations have gone down.

Evan In A Hurricane, Still great! by FamilyCruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our second time on the Disney Fantasy. We missed Castaway Cay which was such a bummer. But the staff made the best of it. Kids had a blast and so did we. Only complaint was debarkation. We were assigned breakfast at 7:15. And if you missed it you didn't get breakfast. What a made house. We were finally able to leave at 11:27am.

Disney Fantasy by campbellm1

Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great cruise. The cruise line did a wonderful job paring my wife and I up with dinner guest. Most fun that we have had on any cruise ship. We had been on this itinerary before, on another cruise line, and were doing this trip to experience a Disney cruise. We were not disappointed. We went during halloween on the high seas. As always, Disney did it right.

Great Cruise!! by jlrhodes2001

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We are frequent cruisers and love everything Disney, this was our second Disney cruise and we loved it! Highly recommend!! So many activities for young and old....drop the kids at the day camps (no extra charge) and adults can enjoy their vacation just as much as the kids will! Our son is three and he had an amazing time loved all the character appearances. Also as a total plus it was a Halloween on the High Seas sailing so the ship was totally decked out in fall/Halloween decor and great costume contests and other Halloween fun! Loved it love Disney!

great for kids by nicemom

Great shows every night. However, don't waste time to watch the last day of the show.

Disney will take st.marteen out from next year, great news!Happy Shore excursions at st.marteen was so bad, the lowest quality I've ever been.

SoSo Food, friendly Server. (The food was great only one day out of seven days.)

Disney is the way to go by rc434

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The attention to detail for the kids was amazing. I see where the extra money goes to. Kids loved it from age 3 to 17. we didn't want to leave Love

St. Marten wasn't much to look at, very poor roads, seems like a storm just went through even though guide said it had been years. Kids wanted to go back to boat immediately. St. Thomas was better, then again US Territory. Castaway Cay was beautiful. Snorkeling looking for the hidden treasures was a must.

Nice, but.... by sherrynunez

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my family's 5th Disney Cruise, the first for my toddler grandkids. Altogether, there were 15 of us sailing. Most of the adults have also done 10+ Royal Caribbean cruises. We will be returning to RC. While the service excelled in most areas, the children's activities, the reason we chose Disney, were a disappointment. Children from 3 to 10 are all grouped together. Our 3 and 4 year old girls were overwhelmed by the older boys in the group. We would come to get them and find them cowering alone in corners because they were afraid. Workers were occupied dealing with the older kids. By the 4th day of the cruise, they begged not to return. This has never happened on RC cruises. Also, even though there was a designated adult area, evening entertainment was largely limited to one or two activities. If you didn't like movies or a club atmosphere, you were out of luck. No piano bars or more laid back music venues. Castaway Cay was lovely, but chairs were hard to come by and the whole island felt very crowded.   All that said, the spa and specialty restaurants on Fantasy were exceptional, and the ship was spotless. You do pay a premium for the Disney brand, but when it came to our younger kids, the premium price failed to yield a premium experience. Next time we will make a different choice.

Great First Disney Cruise by Giana77

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The experience was excellent.  Learning the tips prior to your trip helps as well.  Two items per stateroom can be left at guest services for all the characters to sign instead of you having to wait on each line with them.  Joining a fish exchange group through FB made it even more memorable.  My only low items would be paying for popcorn on a cruise to watch a show seemed off since everything but alcohol is free on a cruise and no wi-fi.

Perfect summer vacation! by hubb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My 11 year old daughter and I went on our first cruise ever on the Disney Fantasy in May and had a wonderful time! The ship was beautiful and spotless, the staff was attentive to every need, and the entertainment was really enjoyable. My daughter loved going to the Edge while I went to the spa.  We had the late dining seating and found that to be perfect to allow us extra time during the day to enjoy the activities and shows. Food was great and our servers were fantastic. Two things to note- (1) we snorkeled and had excursions at every port and I would say that we probably "over-booked"- we didn't need to plan as much as we did as there is lots to do so we did feel a little rushed during those days and (2) the pools on the ship are very small so do not expect to swim but there are so many other things that it wasn't a disappointment. The line for the Aquadunk does get long sometimes so you do have to plan for a wait.  Overall, we would go on another Disney cruise in a heartbeat.

San Juan 7 day Fantasy by purpledream59

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Cruise was great Disney can't be beat.  Excellent service, staff was the greatest yet. I fell in San Juan and broke my wrist, the wait staff at meals were so concerned and helpful, they made my experience wonderful.  Our wait saff Melba even went so far as to cut my food for me.   10 STAR rating.  Thank You Disney!!

EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AND QUALITY by jenavil37

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My family and I enjoyed our Disney Cruise so very much I would definitely recommend it to others.  Our party consisted of children with special needs, a senior citizen, and one adult with special diet and allergy care.  All of which were met.  The one person in our party, that could only eat Gluten free foods, did not have much variety to choose from but for the most part she received exceptional care and attention when it came to pre-ordering her meals.  There was one Autistic adult and two Kindergarten age children with Aspergers. Both have difficulty processing everyday sensory information such as sounds, sights and smells but the ship had so much activity that accommodated their needs (there were toddler play areas that did not trigger their sensory overload and room service was always readily available should smells become an issue or just simply  when they needed a quiet time away from the many activities on the ship. They were treated exceptionally well and had a blast!

Spring Break by steve968

Disney knows service. Great entertainment, new movie premiere release while on board, food and selection was excellent! You can do as much or as little as you want on this ship. Be in middle of the party or a quiet secluded part all to yourself.

Disney Fantasy by ddigeon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall this was a great trip. The ship was clean, staff very friendly, food excellent. However, take away the Disney "flare" and I would rate as an average cruise. If you have kids I recommend a Disney cruise at least once. My family loved the soda and drink stations. The two wave phones per state room genius, I wish all cruise lines had thisHappy. There was not enough pool/ hot tub space. VERY DISASPPOINTINGAngry: photos were "preset" sizes. The only way to get a photo in the size you wanted was to buy the CD package which started at $150. I only wanted one picture, was not willing to pay for the CD. Seems petty that Disney would try to manipulate their patrons with photo purchases. Enough money is spent on extras (ie: tea w characters, kids boutique, spa, ect). I cruise often and  have never run into this problem before. This put a VERY bad impression in my mind.

The best first cruise I could have hoped for! by melissamiceli

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our first cruise (couple, no kids, 27), and I really don't have anything bad to say. The ship was beautiful for starters. Disney detail at its best. We had a standard inside stateroom and even it was beautiful! I've seen a lot of really ugly inside cabins, but ours was great, and the added bonus of the magical porthole was awesome. The restaurants were all amazing as well. The only minor complaint is that sometimes the food wasn't as hot as it could have been, but I guess that's to be expected when they are serving dinner to hundreds of guests. Our overall dining experience was great still. The adults only deck was wonderful, and there was a lot of great adults only activities. My experience was fantastic, we got a great deal on the cruise, and I wouldn't hesitate to book again. In fact, I will be heading on the Fantasy again as soon as my wallet allows!

Amazing cruise by bmcbride

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Fantasy / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

It was a perfect cruise with our children and grandchildren. The entertainment especially was great, and wholesome for all ages. I especially enjoyed the spa area. The grandchildren enjoyed the activity club which was truly amazing. I think Disney has spoiled it for us, and we probably continue to stay with them in the future. It is a bit more expensive, but well worth it.
