The worst cruise was on the Regal Princess.
We wasted an incredible amount of time just getting off and back on the ship.
We were either sitting in a theater waiting for our tour to be called, (almost an hour later than the designated time), or waiting in lines to get on a tender.
I realize that they are moving over 3000 people around but there has to be a better way.
The food on board was fine but the menus have changed dramatically in the main dining room. I have come to the realization that they are trying to encourage people to eat in the specialty restaurants. Traditional dining has lost a lot of the fun. Even the Baked Alaska parade was weird. The waiters marched around the far side of the dining room with electric flash-lites stuck in the merengue of the baked Alaska. It was comical but also a little sad.
The service staff is more concerned about how you are going to rate them at the end of the cruise than really being interested in making your cruise enjoyable. We had the best service of the whole cruise the last day. I had the feeling that not one person that worked on that ship really wanted to be there and no one went out of the way to do anything more than was absolutely required by their job description. The only request we made the whole cruise was 2 extra pillows and an extra blanket. I realize that the service staff deal with a lot of difficult people but we did not run into anyone from waiters, room steward, or blackjack dealers that seemed happy to be there. It shows!
We will not being sailing with Princess again and hope Carnival does not ruin
Holland America too.
Pros: excellent Mattress and linens
Cons: long lines and waiting to get off and on ship
